Sazae-san debuted on Fuji TV in Japan on October 5, 1969, and has been running continuously ever since then.
The Simpsons show debuted on FOX TV in the United States on December 17, 1989 - over twenty years later. I have not been following television audience ratings in Japan for several years now, but when I did, sometimes Sazae-san would rank as the No. 1 most watched program/movie/etc., animated and live action, for the week on Japanese TV - well, at least on TV in the Kantou region, which includes Tokyo and Yokohama, the two largest cities populationwise in Japan - according to Video Research Ltd. During its nearly half a century run on television sets across Japan, according to Video Research Ltd., Sazae-san would occasionally rank as the most watched TV show, live action and animated. Keiko Han - whose voice acting credits include Luna and Queen Beryl in the Sailor Moon animated TV series and movies (1992-1997) and Luna in the Sailor Moon live action TV series (2003-2004), and whose daughter Megumi Han is also a voice actress - has done a few supporting roles in Sazae-san, including Ukie Isasaka, Mitsuko Hama, and Kaori Ozora. Likewise, another seasoned veteran Japanese voice actor, Norio Wakamoto - whose voice acting credits include Cell in the Dragon Ball animated TV series and movies, Oda Nobunaga in the Sengoku Basara games, animated TV series and movie, the narrator (Ten no koe) in the first two Hayate the Combat Butler animated TV series, General Godwin in DOG DAYS, and Shining Saotome in the Uta no Prince-sama animated TV series - has done several supporting roles in Sazae-san, including Anago, Taizou Ishida, Aramaki, Kinzou Yumizu, Mikawaya, and the Boss of the Hanazawa Real Estate Agency (Hanako Hanazawa's father). The Simpsons started airing 20 years after the Sazae-san TV anime. |

One couldn't anyway. A lot of the early episodes can't be found since they were never released on any home video format. |

A number of Sazae-san short "skits" - a weekly Sazae-san TV episode usually consists of three "skits" - have been uploaded on a "fairly well known" video web sharing site.
You can search for them there in English as well as in Japanese. Sazae-san is a family show, watched in Japan by all age groups, from children to the elderly. |

Watch 5 eps every day for 1 year. Or 2 eps every day for 2 years. |

But each of them takes only a little less than 10 minutes for episode... And yeah, this.

While it's true that most episodes are broken down into short stories, there are still 7,000 short stories in over 2,250 half-hour episodes. |

Is this series also like the only long-running animated show in the entire world that still uses cels to this very day?

I believe even now it's gone digital, but I imagine they were able to keep using cels simply because almost every situation they'd need was probably already animated somewhere. |
