This is great news.
Tanemura is the only Mangaka I follow and the exception I make for reading manga (I don't dislike reading manga, but I just can't usually be bothered unless I REALLY like the series #MadokaMagica)

Sounds interesting. I'm interested in how she'll take on a more mature story.

So, she's gone from the Magical Girl subgenre to outright fantasy? Interesting transition.

I kid, I kid.

I so totally want to read this. It's completely out of left field for me, and I'd love to see how this story goes down.

It's not the age; it's how she acts. Maybe she'll just be like a big kid who's no longer in school. We'll see.

Go go Arina! It seems like switching magazines hasn't slowed her down at all. I'm curious: are both "Neko to Watashi" and this going to be long ongoing series? I hope Arina can balance the work well and not burn herself out.

In any case, I like how cute and different this series looks! I can't wait to check it out!

Going to look forward to this one, assuming it gets the Viz treatment the way her other works have stateside. Hopefully Viz won't look at the 31-year-old protagonist angle and automatically think it won't have the same marketability here as her other works. I'm a huge Arina Tanemura fan - not only are her illustrations to die for, but I really respect the fact that she's not only a prolific mangaka, but she also *completes* her series. I can't count the number of mangaka that I've followed and really enjoyed, only to find that they keep starting new series' without lettering their old ones resolve, resulting in them just floating in the wind.

A lot of Viz's most recent Shojo Beat pick-ups have been skewing towards older audiences, so I wouldn't worry too much about that being an issue.

I definitely agree that the real question here is whether the main character acts her age or not. If she does, then this could be worth checking it out. I've read a bit of a number of Tanemura's titles in the past and never been particularly enamoured of any of them but I do like josei and want to support getting more josei series being licensed (assuming, of course, that the quality is there too).

And yeah, not finishing series definitely is a problem for some mangaka out there (looking in particular at you, CLAMP). I've been lucky in that my favourites have generally been pretty good and only have things go on hiatus for medical reasons that are understandable. I've actually been fairly impressed at the fact that Yuu Watase has at times been had 2-3 series on the go at the same time and still had a fairly regular release for each series (admittedly, Genbu Kaiden had a fairly slow release schedule for awhile but there were other business reasons behind that other than her just starting other series, since IIRC the magazine it was running in only released 4 or so issues a year).

Watase Yuu is definitely on my list of mangaka who leave nothing unfinished, and Genbu Kaiden is a special flower in its own right - not only did the series see a shift in magazines (and I think the one it moved to has an even lower release rate than the first, though I don't know which hat the 4/year), but she also had to take time off of it for health reasons if I remember correctly. Fortunately in GK's case, it's a Fushigi Yuugi series, and FY for Watase Yuu is pretty much a guarantee - no matter how long it takes to come out, it's going to sell. So, it's not surprising that it would release slower than Arata. I'm not going to complain, since even with a slower release schedule GK's lost none of its quality.

AWWWWWSOME.

It's shocking she's going to have an ADULT heroine. I thought she was going to stick to the 14-16 range FOREVER. Anime hyper

I'm already subscribing to Magaret to read Neko To Watashi....so I'll just wait for the tankoubon to read this one.

(I absolutely will not read scanlations of her works before buying the raw manga volumes.
Arina-sensei is the ONLY manga-ka I make this rule for. Anime hyper)

That's another thing: none of her female characters have EVER worn glasses!
One would start to think she disliked female meganekko. Anime hyper
