Well it gets better as each volume progresses. All I can say is spread the word and hopefully Viz will release it monthly (like Vagabond), and we can see 20th Century Boy Sooner.

I too hope for a monthly release. I don't think I can wait every 2 months for a new volume. I think the word has been spread. My friend told me there was a commercial for it when he saw me reading volume 1 during class. darkhunter provided links for volume 1 that made me feel like I had to buy this series.

A per month release schedule would be awesome for this series. I picked it up about a week ago and I'm definitely going to continue. I needed something like Monster in my collection.

i still cant get over how long it will take me to get back to where i was in 20th century boys before it was licensed. in the meantime i'm just going to have to re-enjoy monster, which wont be hard. although knowing what happens will take away from half of what made the series so great in the first place. i need more 20thCB, so i too am hoping that the release schedule for monster is quickened.

I was curious about this "20th Century Boys", and the synopsis sounds compelling. I also read about the creator not wanting Viz to release both at the same time, I guess I have something to look forward to after Monster.

Urasawa never said that he wanted Monster to finish first (according to the Viz press release anyways), just that he wanted Monster released first to people could see the progression of his art style. If Monster does well (which it should) then 20th might get released sometime early next year. Personally, I think 20th Century Boys is superior to Monster, as well as more compelling and more entertaining (not that I don't love Monster).

The fact that it's coming out is good, because when I was reading it in Japan, I started to not understand what spoiler[Johan] was trying to accomplish, so this means I'll be able to comprehend the latter part of the series. I thought the ending was good, but I just couldn't get the plot leading up to it.

20th Century Boys was one of those first manga titles that really opened my eyes to the medium. Here I was reading something into the wee hours of the night, fixated and enthralled as I clicked through the pages, yet I never found a trace of golden hair, flying kicks, or mystical powers. If you ever read it, you'll understand how I felt.

According to the blog about the delay of 20th Century boy it went something like:

Quote:
It turns out that though Viz wanted to run 20th Century Boys and Monster concurrently, creator Urasawa was the one against the move. He felt that his art had developed so much between the end of Monster and the beginning of 2CB that it would be something of a disservice to his work to have them not be released in chronological order. In fact, he was fairly insistant about it, and so Viz had to relent and cancel 2CB, with it not to appear in English until after Monster is finished it's run.

It mention Chronological order, which I would assume after Monster, but if Viz does decide to release 20th century boy sometimes next year, I definitely wouldn't mind that.

Which blog would this be (the fact that it's a blog at all makes me question the validity)? Anyways, they should respect the guy's wishes (even though they wouldn't for most other manga-ka), but Monster was still running when 20th started if I recall correctly, so why not release them together?

I agree, blog arn't that trustworthy. I got the blog link from ANN's news about 20th Century Boy Delay, so it has some merit.

But this was also quoted by ANN news:
Quote:
However Urasawa is reported to have asked Viz to release 20th Century Boys after Monster, in the same order that they were released in Japan.

I hope it isn't true because manga is hot right now and 20th Century boy is a great addition to their signature imprint, but as of right now I think it's safer to assume 20th Century Boy after Monster because that's how Urasawa wanted it.
