I wonder why (contract dispute?). It would be nice to read the manga, but let me at least take this opportunity to voice my request for a stateside release of its anime. It's such a great show that deserves more attention--shame, too, since CR isn't able to stream it anymore. Hopefully, that is a sign that it got picked up (though I'm not holding my breath), but whatever the case, I hope that the manga isn't cancelled later and finds it's way back here, along with its animated counterpart.

The anime really is pretty good for being one of the legion of Azumanga Daioh imitators. It manages to pull off some drama decently, too.
I've read some of the manga and the whole AzuDai imitator thing is worse there, plus the art's kind of rough. I think this is a case of the anime adaptation benefiting the material.

That's quite disappointing - I was enjoying the manga. I really don't see where people feel it's particularly derivative of Azumanga Daioh - at no time while reading did it even occur to me that there were any particular similarities.

Well that kind of sucks.
I'm kind of surprised to see this compared to Azumanga. The similarities kind of end after the first chapters when characters outside of the circle of four girls start getting introduced in spades. And the recent volumes with several chapters dedicated to survival games and fight matches are about as far as you can get from Azumanga while still being slice-of-life manga set in high school. Also not 4-koma.

I agree, this always seemed like an easy show for Sentai to pick up and throw out there like they do with so many titles. But who knows what licensing hurdles are out there.

Honestly, any school series centered around girls is compared to Azumanga Daioh whether it is actually similar outside of that or not. After it got going, it deviated very far away from what Azumanga Daioh was and got into its own little groove which I liked. The style of art as the series got older got nicer as the volumes went on, despite still having that "sketchy" feel which I really like. Hasn't Hyakko been put on Hiatus before? I think it was for health reasons before.
