The Railway Museum in Saitama (just north of Tokyo) has a great (street level) dinning area. You buy an ekiben and then get on passenger cars parked nearby and enjoy your meal.
http://www.railway-museum.jp/en/ A great way to get energy before continuing to explore the museum. |

Gokudo Meshi's first volume was very good, and the food each guy talked about did sound tasty. I haven't read the other two, but they are on my list of JManga titles that I've bought. Sad to hear that Ekiben Hitoritabi isn't much more than "bento porn", it seems...
Still, these are the kinds of titles that I'm happy to see from JManga: Titles that more than likely will never be licensed but at the same time haven't been scanlated at all, or at least not much. Now if only JManga can start getting some Masami Kurumada mangas... |

I might have to cave on digital and get some of these, especially the first one.

Thanks again for your great reviews.
I do wish these distributors would have an iPad app so I could read their products without being online. I'm very strict about sticking with legit copies. ZQ Books does this well for their titles and fortunately they have many series I want. I would also want to read the ones in the review, however the requirement of being on the internet is a major limitation. Can't do that on my morning commute (by bus) or when I visit my not-online-at-all parents. |

Ack! Just happily realized I can get The Poor Man's Dining Table via ZQ Books.
Love food manga. Hum what to fix for dinner. |

The truth is simply that there's so much more interesting stuff coming out in manga nowadays in digital formats (even legitimate digital formats). I'm really pleased to see digital pubs like JManga (well, mostly JManga, the other publishers' offerings are not as daring, frankly) trying so many interesting niche titles that print publishers wouldn't dare to do. Print publishers just don't have enough lands to produce the mana to get their books out there fast enough.... so to speak.

More importantly, where can I find a shameless dojinshi starring Fumi Yoshinaga based on "Not Love But Delicious Foods"? That's a much more pressing question! >_> She set herself up for it by drawing herself in her own manga!

To some people no print publisher will ever have any instant in their deck that acts fast enough to please them... |

Of course now I just want to know which manga would represent the other six sins. . . .

In fact the authors did, and not quite hidden: spoiler[with Daisuke mourning Furusato Ginga Line, he sent a strong message against replacing railways with automobile highways, even hinting politicians have received immoral commission in the process.]
A special 16th volume, subtitled Ganbappe Tōhoku-hen (がんばっぺ東北編; "ganbappe" is "ganbare" ("cheer up!") in Tōhoku dialect), has been released just two days ago, focused on the Tōhoku area heavily damaged by the earthquake and tsunami on Mar. 11, 2011. |

If you want to fully understand the art of storytelling of the guy who won the contest last year in Gokudō Meshi, you have to understand rakugo.
I wonder how the fake Kansai dialect spoken by Kate and Daisuke in Ekiben Hitoritabi and odd Japanese spoken by Xià Měiyáo and Xià Měiqí in Ekiben Hitoritabi and Wú in Kodoku no Gourmet were/will be translated. |
