I've noticed a number of pages (eg Toradora!) that have Japanese instead of English for various staff roles. Is this acceptable? Is there a rule that says the job title (I'm talking stuff like say 'producer', director' and such) needs to be in English?
My Japanese isn't great, and I imagine most people's is worse (not putting myself up, just have studied it in the past a bit) so I don't see the point in this. It's fair enough if someone can't translate the role, but that said I would have thought it wouldn't go in at all. Unless you guys can work out a system where you have volunteer translators to fix them...or something. Thoughts? |

This has been brought up before: animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=982303#982303
To reiterate what I've said before, I'm rather surprised that this is only the second time somebody has reported this. But yeah, the higher ups just need to get move forward when it comes to translating those tasks and getting rid of duplicate tasks. But the impending redesign of the site and real life is of higher priority. The untranslated tasks on Toradora's page are: "Art Brushes"= haven't seen the show past episode 1, but I imagine this is just some digital effect to give off the impression that some...brushing or whatever was applied to the picture. "Check Assistant"= In other words, Color/Finish Check Assistant. Basically, they helped out when it came to checking that all of the animation cels were colored properly. |

I think translating the titles would be quite in-order. Unless there is some special reason, Toradora!'s post production label needn't be in katakana, and neither should we say bangumi senden instead of sponsor. I would volunteer for some of these, but most of the time it's just as easy as plugging the terms into an online dictionary like the WWWJDIC anyway.

Well if the general consensus is they should be in English, I'll add this to the list of things I'll try and do if/when I have time. I guess if I can't work something out with JDIC I'll simply flag them as errors for others to get to eventually.
Edit: I've just realised I can't actually change any of the existing ones. I can only flag them as an error. Unfortunate! I've flagged the Toradora! ones, and in the interest of not flagging a zillion different things I'll leave it at that for the moment until someone decides how this should be fixed. |

Why don't you post your proposed translations in this thread instead of marking them as errors? I'm sure Dan will get to them eventually, and this way it corrects the problem on all titles, past, present and future. |

That would make more sense. I haven't spent enough time editing so I wasn't aware of this. Cheers.
