I tried a search to see if this has been brought up before so if it has my apologies. Anyway, I was looking at the GAINAX studio entry and noted some of their credits were in kanji. Specifically their credits for Alien Nine, Nagasarete Airantou, and Zero no Tsukaima: Futatsuki no Kishi. Additionally if you go to those pages there are numerous entries under Japanese companies that are written in kanji. I would think these must be illegal entries as this is supposed to be an English language encyclopedia. While I appreciate the time it must have taken someone to enter all that info it does no good for someone like me that can't read a lick of Japanese.

Dan has to work on translating those entries for companies. Tasks like 原画 (Key Animation) or 動画 (In-Between Animation) are already translated under "staff", but not under "companies". There's a considerably large thread that's dedicated to translating these tasks. I believe the point of using kanji credits when entering tasks is to make sure that the tasks are being translated consistently (translations from US DVDs can be pretty unreliable at times.)
Though, I admit to using my own interpretation if applicable (mostly using "episode director" instead of "unit director" for 演出 on TV shows). (I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to point it out. It's been quite some time since we've seen the "rise of the kanji credits", so to speak, on this site). |

OK, I understand now. I was just pointing it out and wondering if some rouge person was inputting information in kanji.

Not a rouge, but mostly by a specific user. |

Funny, I always pictured you as more of a mauve or cerulean, myself. |

For the record, I never submit kanji credits. I was talking about someone else. |
