loved the show, The real strength of the show is the final arc revolving around Misuzu and Yukito. The performances Monica Rial and Vic Mignogna put on are great and towards the end when Luci Christian gets involved her performance is also incredible. Those who said ADV's key dubs were bad never made sense to me. The main characters were always very well done and Air was in my opinion the best of the KEY dubs. Yes some of the minor characters are a bit off but the main arc which takes up more then half the series is very well acted by all those involved and I just love the series because of those performances. |

loved the series hated the movie. While it tells the story of the best arc of the anime and original visual novel there are so many style choices and scenes that Toei animated in a way that just make no sense. They take away all the drama and all the sense of reality. For example the part at the end when the camera pans up over and over again during the scene on the beach. It's just flat out annoying. |

Awesome show BUT WHERE THE HELL IS THE REST OF IT!!! The show is great from start to finish one of my favorite roles Chris Patton has ever played and I just loved the original concept of the show. It had great characters and a great look and the quality was up there for it's time. The issue is it just stops... The last episode is no conclusion of any kind. It's as if they intended to keep it going but then didn't for some reason. It's cool that there are OVA's coming out along with the manga now but I doubt those will get licensed and if they do I don't know if Chris Patton will reprise his role as he has become increasingly rare in anime these days. |

This show kinda annoyed me to be honest. First off I find as I get older I really don't care for the "Hey lets show you gruesome death shows" But since it wasn't constantly in your face I was able to work with it. What pissed me off is that while the first 9 episodes are well paced and seemingly well written the last 3 devolve into typical slasher movie chaos for NO POINT. Not to mention the plot kinda doesn't support what happens. During the time the characters are researching the curse you see that the curse kills with things that look like accidents and illness and it has been that way for 26 damn years. Yet by the end when all the remaining students find out what needs to be doing they all go ape shit and at one point Mei says it's because of the curse they are acting that way. So basically even though in the history of the show the curse is never so blatant to do what happens at the end the show does it anyway just to have tons of unneeded carnage that adds nothing to the show(for me maybe gore hounds may enjoy it but it's still a weak point).
Mei was another problem. While I like the character and how she acts there comes a point near the end when she already knows what needs to be done and has a ace up her sleeve to prove she is innocent and then constantly NEVER SAYS A WORD serving only to put the guy she seems to care about in immense danger along with herself. |

Loved this show. About half way through I did kind of become a bit exhausting with all the weirdness which is probably a sign that it's not the kind of show you should marathon in a single sitting. But that said I still liked it quite a bit. The majority of the cast are intensely likeable and the count of Kou and Nino is cute in a way that couples in anime rarely are. I'm looking forward to checking out the 2nd season. |

Arjuna (TV) |
Very good |
Arjuna is a odd show for me. I understand the message and the point it's trying to get across and to a certain extent feel similar about it. But it lets the message get in the way of the show to the point of bringing the story down. I mean the show opens with Juna dying in a accident only to be brought back to help Chris save the earth from the Raja with newly gained special powers, However after the 2nd episode you hardly ever see anything about why she has these powers or how she should use them(I mean Chris gives her a bow and then tells her constantly not to kill which makes no sense) The fact that Juna has gained these powers and should learn to use them takes a back seat to the message the show is trying to get across in that humans are destroying the Earth and doing terrible things in the name of feeding it's people or making it's crops when really we don't need to.
There are many times throughout the show in which Juna displays a totally new power having never been told about it or knew about it in any way and it really gets the point of wondering just how exactly she does anything with these powers when she herself have no idea how they work. For example a scene in which she is talking to Tokio on the phone and she projects her being into his room so she can see him as if she were there. She herself has no idea how she is doing it or and at first thinks she really is in his room and not just projecting herself. While we have seen Chris do something similar throughout the show he never once tells Juna about it or how to do it and she just does it. Makes it kinda hard to believe for me. By the end she is fighting the Raja as if she has been doing it her entire life and yet had by the storyline only really fought them once before. The sad part about this is despite the shows awesome and thought provoking message it shoves it in you face FAR to much and this could have EASILY been balanced out by having more growth in terms of Juna(in terms of her powers not Character as pretty much all characters grow very well and there are very few short comings if any in that area)
Arjuna is for me one of those shows that had a incredible message but at the same time needed more balance. It's hard to suggest to anyone to watch it when the show is gonna spend a good 80% of it's time telling you the same thing over and over and over again. Yes it's a very big message and needs alot of thought and should be heard by many but at the same time if you shove it down the throats of everyone who sits down to enjoy the show very few are gonna finish.
Had the show been more balanced it would have been a masterpiece and easily suggestible to nearly everyone. As it stands I would only suggest it to friends who have a very good attention span and don't mind a message constantly being put in front of you. |

B Gata H Kei - Yamada’s First Time (TV) |
Good |
This show seems to be a point of contention among fans and critics alike. For example Zac wrote off the show very quickly after having watched only the first and last episode(which gave him false impressions like the fact that the show IS NOT full of nudity the only time we see nudity is in said last episode) while some of the others feel like the fans that there is a bit more to the show the meets the eye. I fall into a little of column A and B. At first glance the show may look like any other fan service show however if you watch more closely you start to notice that it's a bit more sincere in it's message. Yamada isn't as bad a stereotype or Arch type or what have you as she first appears to be and the feelings both her and Kosuda have for each other are genuine(Although it takes a bit of time for Yamada to realize that) and the Awkwardness the show has with many of it's fan service type sequences are very real to life as teen love is pretty much always awkward and clumsy which is exactly what we see. I give the show props for not flashing nudity every five seconds. In fact the build up to the one and only scene that does have it in the end makes you kinda of understand how a young man would feel seeing someone he loves like that for the first time(and I think that is exactly why they never showed full on nudity until that scene in the final episode). Is the show crude? Yes some times embarrassingly so. Is the show for everyone? Certainly not but it is a little more then it might at first seem and should be given a fair shake. |

Baccano! (TV) |

A really awesome show. I held off on watching it for a very long time because all I heard about it was nothing but praise and I find that very often when that is the case the show in question ends up letting me down. Baccano! however was the exception to that rule. It was incredible. I loved the way the story was told from so many different perspectives and I just love the characters. All of them even the bad guys are cool and interesting and very very few shows can achieve that. Mention also needs to go to the Funimation Dub of the show which in my opinion is the best way to watch it simply because of the accents that work so well and because most of the characters casting are so good and spot on it's hard to imagine anyone else doing it. |

I really liked this show. Probably more than I should have to be honest but I found how the show aped K-ON! so much to be kinda endearing. I mean they lifted so many things from the name to the mugi inspired character design. One thing I liked quite a bit and thought added to a show focused so heavily around a topic was the real names of the companies and bikes used. Normally you see so much of that fake branding like instead of it being a Sony it's a Zony or whatever and it was nice to see the real brands for the bikes in this one I thought it added alot to the show. The minimal amount of fan service was also nice. There was a bit from time to time but it for the most part was very subdued on that front. Again liked it more then I probably should but yeah it was a good time. |

Bayonetta: Bloody Fate (movie) |

The biggest issue with the Bayonetta movie is the lack of soul. The best thing about Bayonetta is the game play and it's lost just by the nature of it being a movie. The story is a hacked up version of what was already a story that made little to no sense from the game and while there are plenty of funny nods and stuff that only fans will notice it still kinda feels soulless. The fight scenes would have been the thing that the movie could have leaned on but again they don't compare to the games so they just feel kinda slow. This movie is a decent bit of fan service but that is about it there is really no reason someone who is not a fan of the games should watch it. |
BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad (TV) |
Masterpiece |
I had read somewhere that BECK is best explained as more of a Documentary of what it would be like for a band instead of a show about a band and it's a pretty good way to explain it. I loved the show. It had awesome characters and great music. In my opinion the dub was the best thing to ever happen to the show. Most of the songs are better in the dub then they are in the subs simply because there are no heavy Japanese accent. In the story some of the characters are explained to have grown up in the US and speak perfect English yet whenever they sung in English the songs had the heavy accent. The dub kept the same lyrics(and cleaned a few up to make it flow better) and did it with voices that were just as good if not better and all without the accents. This not only makes the music sound better but it makes more sense in relation to the story and characters. It was a shame Funimation was never able to release a English version of the soundtrack(However when I talked to Greg Ayres he told me that Funi had basically done everything in their power to get a English version of the soundtrack out but they just couldn't get it done because of issues relating to licenses and what not. Sad as I think it could have sold really well. Although Greg did give me a trick to get the Music on my Ipod in really high quality) |

Having seen a trailer for the show I laughed at a few of the jokes poking fun at RPG's and thought if the entire show had jokes like that it might be worth a shot given it's small price tag.
However while there are a handful of good jokes that poke fun at RPG tropes the majority of the show is content on pushing excessive amounts of fan service down your throat and it's never really even good fan service at that.
Yes it's obvious the show was gonna have a ton of fan service and I normally don't mind that in shows however I like there to be a bit more to a show like that fan service alot does not a fun show make at least for me. |

I liked this version but not nearly as much as the OVA. I kinda don't get why they made a entirely new story instead of just continuing the tease from the end of the OVA. Personally I thought it would have made more sense to redo the OVA story so it takes up a little more time and then continue on into what was teased in the OVA and then to round it out show what was going on in the very beginning of the OVA where it looks as if Black Gold Saw kills Black Rock Shooter. What we got was kinda jumbled and rushed at places and I also didn't like the change in the way the characters look either I thought that wasn't needed at all. Still it was ok enough, I just expected more because I liked the OVA |

Spoilers ahead so if you don't want to know some of what happens don't read on. I thought this version of Blood was good but I had some serious issues with it as well. The biggest one being who Saya is and the world the show is. We find out that the Blood-C Saya is supposed to be the original Saya from the Blood: The Last Vampire film. This is a big mistake as even towards the end when she regains her memories she is nothing like that Saya. The bigger issue here is the world. If this is the original Saya why the hell is the world so different. In the original film and even in Blood+ the enemies had a consistent look to them whereas this one has very over the top cartoony looking baddies that just clash so bad with the idea of this being the original Saya. This should have done what Blood+ did in that it should have been it's own spin on the Blood tale without being connected to the past versions. For me as a very big fan of the movie and the Saya they made in it just the fact that they want you to believe that Saya Kisaragi is the original Saya ruins it for me to a extent. I would have enjoyed it far more had that connection not been made. |

How can you do so many things right and still have a god awful pile of trash movie? Really.... They got the casting for the movie almost spot on and everyone looked like who they were supposed to be playing. They kept in some of the more memorable scenes such as the opening sequence on the train and yet everything still falls apart. I know the movie needed to be long then the 45 minutes the original ran but that wasn't any excuse to just completely butcher the story and character. One the biggest unneeded piles of crap in the movie was the wire fu. The original was great for it's brutal and gritty fight scenes not over the top wire fu crap. And what the hell was up with that CGI? Really? It looks so terrible as to be laughable. It's sad because in the early days of the movies production it was looking promising but the final product was just a massive pile of steaming crap. |

I loved this show. I had actually held off on it for awhile because I had people telling me it was awesome and people saying it was crap and has all kinds of problems and what not. I finally watched it and I just loved it. I liked pretty much everything about the show. The characters are fun and interesting(for the most part) the story arcs and varied and intense and the fight scenes can be quite inventive at times. The only real weak spot for me was the Angelfall arc. It kinda seemed like they put it in there just to make you laugh with the randomness of who looks like who and what not. But story wise it was a bit weak(Although I did like the interaction between Toma and his Dad at the end. I thought that worked quite well given the results of the first arc) I would also agree that the arcs seemed to be poorly thought out in terms of where in the series they happen. The first arc for example The Index arc seems like the type of thing you would end a series with. It has a build and a intensity in the last episode that would be fitting for a end of the series cap but it's at the very beginning. The only defense for that one being where it is is because of the end result from said arc. What happens to Toma kinda needs to happen at the very beginning for most of the interactions he has later on to work the way they do. Moving that arc would change too much. That said the others still felt out of place and those didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to where they were placed. All that said though this isn't a big deal for me as I said I liked the characters and the world so I didn't care to much that the stories took place in a strange order I just enjoyed what was there. |

I hope this doesn't become a trend with him and this was just him trying something different. |

I always liked the first season of Comic Party. Despite being based off of a visual novel it never really became a harem show. The real focus of the show was the manga and how Kazuki falls into the addiction of drawing it and making it as good as it can be. Taishi is also a great part of the show as he is over the top and very funny and some of the lines he has stick in your head for days. The 2nd season of the show Comic Party Revolution fell victim to the whole Harem thing and as a result wasn't nearly as enjoyable. |

There is a bit of a barrier of entry with this series with all the nudity of what appears to be a underage character(although she really isn't) However if one can get past that Vampire Bund is a very good show. The characters were quite interesting and fun to watch and the story follows alot of the Vampire cliches while at the same time forging it's out path. Fans of Vampire movies and the like will get a kick out of the various references to other vampire works(such as the titles for each episode being based on a movie relating to vampires). |

Really liked the show but where the hell is the rest of it? The show deliberately ended a few plot threads and then opened up even more threads in it's last episode leading me to believe that the studio intended to have a 2nd season made. It just doesn't feel like the oh we caught up to the manga lets stop kinda thing. It seemed as though they were sure they would get a second season green lit and then it didn't happen. From what I have seen around forums I have heard that the show bombed in Japan and didn't even rank on the DVD and Blu-ray charts which is a bad thing for a show that had the quality of animation this one did(coulden't have been cheap). It's a shame because there were some interesting characters and a story that was starting to get better the longer it went on but I guess we will never see more. Shame. |

DearS is a show I liked quite a bit but always annoyed me that it should have been longer. It was based on the manga and the place the show choose to stop was just a bad point. That said I still liked what I saw although it's not nearly the best example of it's genre. |

I liked this show but one thing made me not be able to really take it serious and that was the whole Mecha thing. It had NO reason to be there it served only to have cheesy battles and make the other wise decent drama harder to take seriously. I mean one minute something sad and or dramatic is happening and then 30 seconds later someone is screaming the name of a incredibly cheesy attack during a mech fight. It clashes so badly with the other tones the story is trying to achieve. I really was on the side of straight up not liking it until the last 4 or so episodes where the drama gets to the point that you can kinda look past the mechs but everything before that was a slog as I was just itching to turn it off and only gave it the benefit of the doubt based on what a few friends had told me. I know mecha can be in a show and mesh with the great drama but the show needs to be built for that. Think something like F.L.A.G which is a incredible piece of work and even Gundam to a lesser extent is able to do it but this was clearly a show that should have been a bit more grounded and perhaps only had a little supernatural element instead of mecha that feel horribly out of place. |

I didn't like this 2nd season as much as the first but only just. They are bother equally good and really it's just my personal taste that makes the first series edge out the 2nd. But still a very good show with a few funny moments and some real emotional gut punches. |

Here is a show that had great art direction and a really good story to tell but gets far to bloated for it's own good. It should have really been a 12-13 episode series as after about half way the story gets side tracked time and again and at times you begin to forget what the main story even was and then when it goes back on track the impact the show should have had is lost because of all the stuff that kept you wondering what the hell is going on and where is the real story here. |

Bar none hands down my favorite holy crap wtf is happening over the top my head is gonna explode from all the insanity comedy of all time. I loved pretty much every minute and each episode opening with Koshi Rikudo saying something like " I hereby allow the Excel Saga anime to be turned into a gripping survival drama" and then accepting a giant pile of cash it just awesome. I also love how the characters play off each other too. For example Excel is off the wall motor mouth at a 1000 miles an hour whereas Hyatt is very calm and very slow yet they both end up coming out equally as funny. Special mention has to be made of Jay Hickman as Watanabe. Some of his lines were so funny I could not stop laughing. At the end of the day Excel Saga is one of those shows you either love or hate and I guess I fall into the former category. |

Compared to the original visual novel the anime was butchered pile of crap. They spliced together various paths from the game into a plot that made little to no sense and lacked the impact the visual novel had. |

Has issues similar to that of the TV series. It cobbles together to much in to short of time and the end result is a first half that makes no sense due to skipping to much of the plot and a 2nd half that lacks any punch thanks to scenes with significantly less impact then that of the original visual novel. |

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie) |
Very good |
If ever there was a movie for the fans and fans only it would be Advent Children. Your chances of understanding what is happening is next to nil unless you know everything there is to know about the Final Fantasy VII universe and it's characters. But for those who know all of that stuff this is one hell of a film. Not only does it have a great conclusion to the main plot threads left open in the original game but it also has some of the best fight scenes every committed to film ever... and believe when I say that is not a exaggeration. After the completion of the film Director Tetsuya Nomura was quoted as saying that at one point it was considered for being a live action film however the idea was nixed because he knew the fight scenes he had in his head would never work in live action given the budget the movie had.
Another great thing is the amount of fan service in the movie. Little things that only fans will get and laugh at. For example the battle in the church between Tifa and Loz. At the end of this battle Loz's phone begins to ring and his ring ton is none other then the Final Fantasy VII victory tune that played after battles. Great little things like this are littered throughout the movie and only die hard fans will notice them. Just another thing that made it so great despite the population at large not understanding why it was such a great film. |
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (US CG movie) |
Very good |
Despite being panned I thought this movie was one hell of a piece of work. The story was very well done despite having nothing to do with any pre existing Final Fantasy(Which makes sense as most of the games are not related either) and the quality of the CG is to this day incredible.
I think one of the biggest problems this movie faced was that it was released during a time that basically everything animated was considered for kids and when it was seen that this wasn't the case for this movie people hated it without really giving it a chance. Yes it's far from the best movie ever and one could argue that it's not even a great movie but it certainly didn't deserve all the hate it got from fans and media alike. |
Final Fantasy: Unlimited (TV) |
Awful |
What happens when you make a final fantasy anime not really based on anything have terrible animation and pretty much nothing memorable? You get Final Fantasy Unlimited. Really the only damn thing it has in common with the games is A character named Cid, Chocobo's and summons(none of which look anything like summons). Sure there were a very interesting concepts in the show such as the using of various kinds of soil to summon said summons but when all is said and done you wonder why the show needed to have the Final Fantasy name and why Square even let something of such low quality out the door with the Final Fantasy name on it. I'm not saying it should have been a adaptation of a FF game but it did need to be quality which it failed on all accounts. |
First Squad - The Moment Of Truth (OAV) |
Good |
The first half of this little OVA makes no sense. Mainly because they are cramming in a ton of info in between sporadic action scenes. The 2nd half is alot better as it slows down a bit and becomes a little easier to follow. This really is something that should have been a 12 episode series at the least. It seems like there is alot to the world and cramming it into about a hour is just not a good idea. It also had some problems with it's animation. Namely the expressions on the characters faces. Quite often they look out of place or just poorly animated. |

If you have yet to see FLCL get off your ass. It's easily one of the best OVA's out there. While on it's surface one may think the show is nothing but random things after random things it does indeed have a story to tell. Quite a good one at that. It's also blessed with one hell of a soundtrack composed entirely of music from the awesome Japanese rock band The Pillows. It's also damn good looking as well.
Oh and it's also got one of the best dubs of all time and is easily on par with the Japanese if not better. |

The show certainly has it's issues and isn't for everyone. I know why some had issues with it as the fan service mixed with the violence is very disconcerting but if you can get past it there is stuff to enjoy. Satellizer is a interesting character and her very messed up past explains alot of why she is the way she is and despite a few very weak moments(like the prom episode that didn't need to be in there AT ALL or the last minute or 2 of the first episode) I enjoyed the series. It has some great fight scenes and a pretty good final 2 episodes that spike up the intensity quite a bit. Not perfect by ANY means but I think it does what it sets out to better then similar shows like Ikkitousen which just didn't suck me in at all and seemed so much stupider then something like Freezing did. |

What I loved about GunSlinger Girl was that it was intensely character focused and it never fell victim to how cheesy it's concept could have been. I loved how each few episodes were dedicated to learning about the past of each of the girls and each of the stories was so real and in many cases disturbing that they were at times very hard to watch(Angelica in particular). It's all done in such a serious and realistic fashion that it makes the show and doesn't even really need a plot. The plot is in fact the concept and that's it after that the characters carry the series. It's this very reason I think the 2nd season was so much weaker in comparison. The art style as well was so well done in the first season. It had a look to it that almost made it not seem as if it was anime(Another reason the 2nd season was so much weaker). It looked almost theatrical in nature.
It certainly isn't a show for everyone but if you don't have a weak stomach I would suggest you check it out. |

I liked Haganai but one thing got to me alot and made pretty hard for me to enjoy it and that is Yozora. She is flat out sadistic in how she treats Sena and while I think the show wants you to thing it's funny or erotic it isn't. There are many times throughout the show in which Yozora either does something to or says something to Sena that would scar people for life and it does not come off funny so I don't know exactly what they were aiming for. The rest of the show is pretty good and while I liked Rika I can see some people not liking her because of her over the topness. |

Went into this show SURE i was going to hate it based on what I had heard and read about it prior to seeing it. I was kinda right. The first episode was pretty crap as the main character is a total contradiction. He states many times he just wants a quiet normal life but then uses his new found Angel to cause as much insane over the top craziness as he can.
However moving past that issue and some of the incredibly perverted humor there are a few episodes that are very funny with little to no perverted stuff such as the episode when everyone visits Sugata at his tent. In addition to that the characters are more or less likeable and in the case of Ikaros character growth really does happen. At first she is the typical monotone robot/ angel girl but by the end she has opened up and shown some emotion she didn't earlier on. It's not a great series but if you don't mind the perverted stuff there is a little bit to like here but certainly much better shows out there. |

I loved pretty much everything about this series. The fact that the majority of the series episodes are self contained is great as it makes it easy to watch for those who don't like to marathon things. All the main characters are very cool and interesting and you will find yourself wondering exactly who they are and why they are doing what they are doing. When the series starts to have a central story about halfway through it's a genuinely interesting one as you get to see the history behind Ai Enma and how she became who she is. It all just worked great.
It's sad that I will probably never be able to watch the 2nd and 3rd season as they were releases sub only from Sentai and even if they were ever to be dubbed they will likely have a different and for me personally Brina Palencia made the character of Ai Enma and without her behind the character I just don't think I will ever be able to watch the 2nd and 3rd season. Which in a way may be a good thing because from what I hear from fans of the series the 2nd and 3rd seasons are rather weak when compared to the 1st. Of course I will probably never know if this is really the case. |

I bought this because of Mike Toole and him mentioning it on a recent ANNcast and it was cheap and I thought well it's something cheap I haven't seen why not give it a shot. It's a show that doesn't make much sense and seems to be hinting at a much bigger and better story the ENTIRE time your watching and I found out why soon after seeing it. It's based off of a visual novel. Which totally explains why it felt as if it didn't make as much sense as it should have seeing as they took what was probably a 10+ hour story and tried to squeeze it into what was basically 2hours. The DVD is hard to watch because of having both a TERRIBLE dub and subs that suck. It's not the translation that sucked so much as the fact that nearly every single thing on screen were massive paragraphs of text instead of lines and you were often reading something before it was even said or reacted to by the characters. The one good thing I can say about the OVA is that while the animation itself isn't all that great I did love the art style. |

I love K-ON! It's great for what it is. Pure simplistic escapism. It doesn't strive to be some piece of masterpiece story telling or a incredible character study. It's just trying to be escapism pure and simple and it does that. I'm so tired of people feeling the need to compare it to things that are legitimate masterpieces just to try to discredit the show in there own way. It's retarded. it's a fact that people have different tastes and not everyone may like the shows that are about nothing but there are those out there like myself who can sit down and really truly enjoy something like K-ON! while also being able to really truly enjoy something like Patlabor 2. Do I compare the 2? No why the hell would you. Doesn't liking one mean I can't like the other? No in what world would that logic make any sense. Bottom line if you don't like something like K-ON! or some other slice of life show don't fucking watch it and for the love of god stop comparing it to other things it shouldn't be. Apples to oranges comes to mind. |

Kekkaishi (TV) |
Excellent |
Kekkaishi is in my opinion one of the best shonen anime around. Hands down. Why? Simple it's very focused on it's main characters. The problem with most shonen shows and manga is that the casts are so large and bloated you hardly ever really get a ton of time with them. Take Bleach for example. Ichigo is the main character however there are entire episodes in which you never even see him some times multiple episodes in a row.
Kekkaishi on the other hand ALWAYS has the focus on the main characters Tokine and Yoshimori. Never once does the focus stray from them(and later on Gen) this builds attachment to the characters far more effectively then any other shonen show I have seen. It also helps that the show has great characters and an incredibly interesting world. It also tends to break the mold for a shonen show. In most shonen shows the main character gets stronger and stronger beating bigger and bigger enemies. But in Kekkaishi Yoshimori is already very very strong and instead of getting stronger every time a new enemy appears he instead needs to find ways to use his power more effectively or more cleverly. I liked that twist on the shonen formula quite a bit.
I would have loved to see Kekkaishi continue running until it's manga ended as well however I guess one of the great things about the show is unlike most Shonen shows this one does have a ending and it's a great one at that so you need not have to worry about getting into a never ending show. |

I liked this show quite a bit but there were a few things in and about it that really did annoy me. The relationships thing kinda annoyed me. Now I love shows about young love and the drama that comes with it(Kimi Ni Todoke is one of my favorites after all) but it was kinda in the way with this one. I wanted the music to take center stage in Kids on the Slope and for the first half of the series it really kinda does however there comes a turning point after which music clearly seems to be the secondary focus. Another big issue I had was the character of Seiji. He really got on my nerves. He was so over the top and annoying in what was a otherwise subdued show. You see characters like him in many a show and when they fit it's ok but he seemed horribly out of place here and often made me reach for the volume to turn him down cause of how annoying he sounded(in both languages.) The last thing that irked me is something awesome the show does. The animation. I loved that the show was animated so that the characters looked like they were playing the instruments for real and not just making random motions and sound comes out. The so does this well but the problem at least for me was while the arms and hands of the characters looked incredible the body movement as a whole didn't. The result kinda clashes as you have arms moving extremely realistically and the bodies are not in most cases. It just makes things look a bit off and to be honest this might just be me as a friend could only vaguely tell what I was talking about. Either way I still liked the show very much. |

A very good show that is very real in it's telling of a story of which 2 siblings fall in love with each other. Never once does the series try to exploit the characters in it's plot line like so many Otaku bait shows do these days. It's a shocking real telling of what could happen in a real life scenario and it works. It's not for everyone but it's one hell of a show with great characters great drama and a awesome English dub that really helps sell the show. It's a shame Geneon really didn't know how to market the show as evidenced by the "Oh no Big Brother" Stickers that come inside the cases. As stated the show never exploits the characters so having something like that made little sense and in the end may have made people shy away from the show. Shame really. |

If you decide to watch Kyousogiga DO NOT watch the ONA. While this is just my personal opinion I find the ONA confusing and pointless as pretty much everything isn't given any proper context and as a result makes it difficult to follow. All the footage is reused in the main TV series and is filled out in a way that does a much better job explaining what is happening. The blu-ray set for Kyousogiga lists the ONA episodes before the TV series proper and I was very nearly turned off from watching the TV series because after a hour of the ONA i felt very lost but once the TV series started and put all that was happening in context I can to LOVE the show. So yeah watch the TV series not the ONA as all the content of the ONA is used better in the TV series itself. |

I liked this series more then I thought I would going in. Personally I have never really been a fan of Rumiko Takahasi. Most of her work just never did for me and so when I picked this up it was kinda "am I gonna like this or not" I had read about it before hand and the idea behind the story was interesting and so I picked up the set for like 15 bucks. I liked it. The show is not perfect by any means and the first episodes are a bit sloppy but it does settle in and because a pretty enjoyable show. The one thing that threw me was the large step up in violence and gore in the final story arc. Prior to this arc there is some violence but never anything overly graphic. The final arc however is very brutal at moments and many cringe worth moments are added. Normally I don't like when a shows tone changes out of nowhere but this time it worked. It made this final arc feel more desperate for the characters and made it feel more then any of the previous arcs that they were not safe and could end up dead at any moment and that really helped the tension in this last arc. Like I said I liked it but it's not perfect by any means and I know there are people out there who hated it. To each his own I guess. |

panties panties panties. Yeah there is plenty of that. To the point that the first episode almost made me turn it off(I had no problem with Strike Witches and this is worse if you can believe that) The sad thing is there are great characters and a pretty good story behind all the panties. The show itself is basically a bit of a homage to the old cheesy 70's spy movies. From the feel and music right down to little things like the golden gun used in the last episode. The story has some pretty thought provoking things to say about things such as how humans treat life that isn't human and the bit of drama that leads to is genuinely interesting to watch and again the characters are very well done as well. If you can get past the metric ass load of panties(pun certainly intended) then there is really plenty to like but if you can't it will be a deal breaker as there is far to much panties to overlook for someone who doesn't want to be staring at them every 5 seconds. |

not nearly as good as Voices. Mainly because it's length works against it. The movie is filled to the brim with tons of techo babble and the key relationships seem to take a back seat during most of the movie with the exception of the opening portion and ending portion. That's what worked so well in Voices was that the length forced the story to focus more on the relationship and less on the world and why things are the way they are. Because so much of the movie is talking about what's happening in the world and what the tower does instead of focusing on the relationships it makes the ending lose it's impact. |

I loved this series so much and have probably watched it about 6 times in the past year. Even members of my family have watched it and my mom loved it so much she watched the whole thing in a single sitting(she never does that even if it's a anime she likes alot) I know that much of the talk about the show basically boils down to this show basically being aimed at women. While I think that is true I don't think you need to be a woman to get alot out of it. While it is true that the growing up and not being the princess you wanted or had hoped to be is exclusively something for the women(which isn't exactly true as you can just substitute prince for princess and you can pretty much come out the same result) there are still things that can relate to everyone. The feelings of not belonging and the anxiety that can prevent you from being who you want to be and coming out of your shell or the friend who helps you get past things you didn't want or know how to get past. Alot of that is easily to relate to regardless of gender. That said if you never suffered these issues in your own life you likely won't get much out of the series and I think that is a big part of why this show is a love it or meh kinda show. |

This one I had more issues with then the other 2 seasons. I think that this one had more likable characters and somewhat of a more interesting story(which isn't saying much for queens blade) Now I don't mind fan service and in some cases it can be fun but the borderline hentai level of stuff in Rebellion almost made me turn it off. The whole vibration stuff and the holy poses shit(which was also a problem for me in the 2nd season) just made me cringe and want to turn it off. I stuck it out however and would say that I would have enjoyed it alot more had those things not have been there. |

I have to be honest there were times I struggled with this show. I think going into this it was a classic example of having my expectations far to high. And why wouldn't I. I had heard nothing but praise for it by the guys on the ANNcast, the reviews of it's original release and the recent remaster all said it was one of the best shows ever made and a large majority of folks seemed to rate it as a masterpiece on it's page.
However going into it I honestly found myself having to fight the desire to turn it off many times. There was so much blatant animation reuse that it really did intrude on my viewing experience. in the recent remaster review Zac said that the show had nearly 4 minutes of reused animation per episode and it's no exaggeration to say that. The entire first arc was a issue for me as the whole thing is about Utena wanting to protect and make Anthy say what she really wants and not just be a puppet to whoever she is engaged to but the issue here is that while Utena herself is very very likeable and interesting Anthy isn't and doesn't really open up as a character until the latter parts of the series. She is essentially the emotionless doll like character that people seem to have so much against these days. --------Once I got into the 2nd arc I started to enjoy myself MUCH more but there were still issues with constant animation reuse(really I have never seen a show that reused that much animation and did it so blatantly) and now the added annoyance of to many recap episodes and filler episodes. Zac said that the humor in some episodes blends perfectly into the show such as the Kangeroo bit and what not but I really have to disagree I thought such episodes felt tedious and out of place. I fast forwarded through the damn Nanami is cow episode because of how bad and out of place it was. -------- However all that said the show really did hit it's stride in the final arcs and I did end up enjoying myself but like I said there were so many times I nearly turned it off. If there is anything I have learned from this experience it's not to go into anything with expectations to high regardless of how well regarded the thing in question might be. |

The last few episodes of this show really pissed me off. Spoilers and all blah blah blah. But once the Inner Moka becomes the only Moka after the who cross being broken and replacing it thing it really annoyed me that all her "Friends" whom she has saved numerous times over the course of the 2 seasons treat her as if she is some hostile evil beast who will at the drop of a hat try to kill them or Tsukune which annoyed me as you would think they would treat her pretty much the same as the other Moka but that isn't the worst part of it for me. In the very last episode when Tsukune finishes his standoff with Moka's father to get the new cross her father asks her are you really gonna do this and she says it isn't her decision to make. WHAT KIND OF HORSESHIT IS THAT. It's her life not fucking Tsukune's regardless of how he might care for her or the other Moka it's NOT his choice and to turn it around to make it seem as though it was right for it to be pissed me off. |

This is a show that from a production stand point probably deserves far more then my rating but from every other stand point not so much. The show is needlessly violent(I like violence as much as the next guy but this show just revels in it far to much for it's own good and it doesn't really serve to forward the story like a show like say Elfen Leid) there are also other disgusting things like the treatment of women and so forth that really are far to blatant and again at the end of the day don't add a thing to the story. OH and said story is also lack luster and slow and the FEW things that viewers would like to see answered or settled never are so no only does it leave a bad taste in your mouth because of content but because of lack of closure as well(which one could except if the show itself wasn't so disgusting and pointless at the end of the day.) I appreciate the incredible animation that went into the show but the characters and style and violence just ruin anything that could have been enjoyable. |

This series has a incredibly slow first half and the 2nd half picks up quite a bit and shifts focus to the more interesting characters. The reason I rated it so high when it otherwise doesn't deserve it is because of the final arc. The Asa arc almost seems as though it's a different show. Not only does Asa's(she is more then the childhood friend/tom boy the majority of the series portrays her as) character really get fleshed out but as soon as this arc starts all the who is Rin gonna choose crap ends. He clearly loves her and they move in together and they make progress in a relationship instead of the endless which girl will he pick crap most harem comedies have. When Asa's illness is exposed there is some pretty decent Drama here and one of the final scenes in which Rin slits his wrist had me cringing while wondering what the hell was gonna happen next. Not the best thing ever but this arc was better then your average harem show. |

A show I feel is very underrated. While it's certainly not the best show of it's kind it was alot better then I expected it to be and the fact that it was overlooked by alot of people was quite sad(although it's syfy airing probably helped it out a bit) I found most of the characters to be pretty likeable and I liked how the show didn't really have a long over arching plot instead having small little arcs and stand alone episodes. |

Based on what the synopsis for this show is many people would probably think it to be the poor mans K-ON! and that isn't exactly true nor fair to the show. Really the only thing Tari Tari has in common is that is about music clubs and the people in them. But whereas K-ON! is largely about nothing and basically has no plot beyond watching the girls do silly things(which isn't bad btw) Tari Tari has a pretty good plot and very good character arcs as well. It's not overwhelmingly good or anything but it is certain a good enough show that people should not write it off as a K-ON! clone. It is genuinely funny and at times sad as well as uplifting and touching. The only real complaints I have for the show is that there are plot threads that disappear in the last part of the show for no reason and could have made the last arc less silly if used instead of thrown out. The music is also quite weak which is understandable as the club in Tari Tari is a Choir club and not a more traditional band like is the case in K-ON! I suppose if you like the type of music you might hear from a choir you will have no issue however it's not my cup of tea. That said the singing isn't going non stop so it's not that big of a deal anyway. |

I LOVED THIS DAMN SHOW!!! Honestly I don't know why VIZ did not fight like hell to get this out earlier and on TV. It has such a wide appeal I think it really had a great chance at being the next massive mainstream hit. Not only does it have appeal but it is a really good show. It's pretty well written(for the kind of thing it's trying to be) it's very pretty looking and is one of the few shows that has CG that works well and blends with the animation instead of clashing. It has a wide and varied cast that are all very fun or interesting. The hero's are more then simply cut outs of a certain kind of hero, each of them feels like a person which helps to make them likeable and to add drama to the end of the series. Honestly it saddens me this didn't hit as big as it could have. It's also somewhat sad it's only 25 episodes. I think this really felt like a 50+ episode show although perhaps what made it so good might have wore thin with so many episodes. |

Yeah this is one of those shows that's really about nothing. And you know what that's ok. I found this show to be very relaxing. I liked most of the characters and I liked how there wasn't really a storyline to be concerned with. It was nice to just relax and watch the characters interact. It was like a window into their lives. It was based on a visual novel but I have never played it show I can really say if there was a story for it to follow or not but that said I liked it for what it was and that's a nice mellow slice of life show that does nothing but show the interactions between it's characters. |
Tokko (TV) |

Pretty decent show. A few interesting characters and a few interesting concepts that never really get fully developed. It got far more promising towards the end and then just suddenly stops despite obviously still have more story to tell. It seems as though the first season was a setup to another season but it just never did well enough to get green lit. A shame because depending on what direction they took the story it could have ended up being a rather decent show.
But I did get one memorable line out of the show. "MURAMASA GET ME A FUCKING TANK!!!!" |

Very pretty but that is about all that can be said for it. X/1999 in both manga and anime form took time to let you know the characters and care about who they are so once things started to happen you had a several reasons to be invested. This movie however cuts out ALL of that. Not one character matters and are simply introduced so they can fight someone and die. Nothing more nothing less. I love X/1999 but watching this movie really made me wonder why and I really had to force myself to remember that the show and manga actually tried to be more they flashy fight scenes(which it also has in spades). I will say that I had been told how bad this film was for quite awhile and then finally when I saw it really cheap I picked it up just to see and my advice would be don't do that. Just let this one die. |

Ruins nearly everything that made the games story so good. Key events are often removed and in some cases moved to points in the story that cause said events to lose all impact and newly created characters don't really add anything to the story at all and in places complicate the story. Also while supposedly being a adaption of the first game the story has bits and pieces from the 2nd and 3rd games and those bits don't ever tie into what's going on and leave the viewer wondering what the hell is going on and who are these people that are never really involved in the story.
In addition to that none of the original cast from the games is maintained and not only that the new casting mis casts almost all of the characters. I love Luci Christian but she isn't even close to a good choice for KOS-MOS.
I could go on and on about why it sucked when compared to the original games. If your a fan of the games don't see this whatever you do. If you have never played the games then I would suggest playing them but if not then you might find the show decent but either way it's still not something to really care about. |

This is one that I really liked and made me wonder what the hell people were talking about when they said it was to dull. I thought it was the complete opposite of dull. It has great characters and they all have really cool and unique powers. I loved the concept behind Kotaha's Kotadama powers in which she needs only speak something and can create a object. Her fight scenes were quite cool as she wiped up various guns and what not to battle her enemies and while the scenes may seem bland it's only because of the budget constraint the show had and it could have looked much better had they had the money to do so. Still I loved it and thought it was overlooked by quite a few out there who passed it off as nothing but dull. |
