Orphen Fantasy Gets New Light Novel Series This Fall
posted on by Egan Loo
Author Yoshinobu Akita will launch a new series in his Sorcerous Stabber Orphen (Majutsushi Orphen) fantasy light novel project this fall, and T.O Entertainment's TO Books imprint will give away free booklets at bookstores throughout Japan to promote the new series in April. The last short stories about the title sorcerer appeared in TO Books' Yoshinobu Akita Box in 2009, and the last volume (pictured at right) in the 20-volume main series shipped in 2003.
The light novels have sold 12 million copies thus far, and they spawned the 1998-1999 anime of the same name as well as the 1999-2000 anime Orphen: The Revenge. ADV Films released both anime in North America, and ADV Manga later published the novels' manga adaptation.
Besides Orphen, Akita has written a new science-fiction novel called Hunter Dark which will ship in Japan on March 26. Manga creator Shōu Tajima (MPD-Psycho, Madara) is illustrating Hunter Dark, which follows a man with a mechanized steel body as he travels a lawless underground world in search of lost memories of his past.
