Japanese Box Office, August 28-29

Loups-Garous opens out of top 15 with 4.5 million yen; Arrietty stays in top 3

Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ghibli's The Borrowers (Karigurashi no Arrietty) anime film stayed at #2 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's box office chart for the August 28-29 weekend. However, it was #3 on Box Office Mojo's chart. In its seventh weekend, the movie earned US$2,755,517 on 447 screens to add its total of US$92,876,978.

The double billing of Metal Fight Beyblade VS Taiyō Shakunetsu no Shinryakusha and Duel Masters: Honō no Kizuna XX!! stayed at #5 in its second weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. Box Office Mojo reports that it dropped to #8 and added US$959,943 on 216 screens for a gross-to-date of US$3,843,455.

The newest Pokémon movie, Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Genei no Hasha Zoroark, rose from #9 to #7 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart in its eighth weekend. It rose from #11 to #10 on Box Office Mojo's chart with US$883,230 on 369 screens. The 13th movie in the Pokémon franchise made US$44,733,813 since its opening.

The double billing of Kamen Rider W Forever A to Z Unmei no Gaia Memory and Tensō sentai Goseiger: Epic on the Movie dropped from #7 to #8 in its fourth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. (Box Office Mojo reports that it went to #6.) On 459 screens, it brought in US$994,825 for a gross-to-date of US$15,268,004.

The Bunkatsūshin website reports that the anime film version of Natsuhiko Kyōgoku's Loups-Garous novel debuted with 4.473 million yen (about US$53,200). The film featured cameos by the girl band Scandal.

The Japanese live-action film Hanamizuki remained the #1 film for a second weekend.
