In ep. 3, when Yuno is praised, her nose grows grotesquely long. This is a bit of Japanese folklore manifesting as a common expression: tengu ni naru, "to become a tengu". The idea is that when a person grows conceited, their nose will grow as long as that of the tengu, a mythical long-nosed type of ogre known for their pride.

In Episode 1: The running scene featuring Yuno and her mother is reminiscent of a similar scene in "The Girl Who Leapt through Time", where she leaps the scene cuts to that of her falling into bed.

In episode 6, around 7:35, the doll on the floor of Yuno's room is Yoko from Gurren Lagann. A little later (about 8:25), it is Nia.

The characters in the Detective Lovely Chocolate show in episode 8 resemble Behoimi from Pani Poni Dash and Nozomu Itoshiki from Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, both of which were also animated by SHAFT.

In Episode 9, At the End of the Opening Sequence, the last picture has Yoshinoya cosplaying as Amamiya Yuuko from ef - A Tale of memories, which was also animated by SHAFT
