In the original film and the English-language adapation, nowhere was the mysterious collector's name ever mentioned. In the original film, he is identified in the ending credits as "Jirarudan."

The three Pokemon "gods" were called "Titans" in the English-language adaptation so to remove polytheism and religion from the film.

This is the first movie to be mentioned in the TV series, in episode The Mystery is History, Ash mentions he saw a Lugia in the Orange Islands.

In the original version, the collector "Jirarudan" is voiced by actor Takeshi Kaga, who plays Chairman Kaga in the TV cooking competition show "Iron Chef."
