Tekkonkinkreet (movie)

In one shot of the film, Suzuki's yakuza gang is sitting around a table and watching TV. The program shown on television is "Time Boy," a fictitious show alluded to several times in Mind Game, one of Studio 4°C's previous works.

Some of the graffitis in the city contain quite interesting things, such as Betty Boop or Edvard Munch's "The Scream".

When the two boys are playing the video game (at around 1:11:50), the spaceship they control is recognizably USS Voyager from the Star Trek series of the same name. (To be precise, it could technically be another Intrepid-class ship...) One of the enemy ships is a Klingon Bird of Prey.

In the same scene, after Black punches the boys and the game ends, the screen reads "GAME OVER - ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US", a reference to the Internet meme spawned by the 8-bit video game Zero Wing.

At 01:24:50, the pig on the merry-go-round has the kanji "niku" ("meat") drawn on its forehead, no doubt a reference to Kinnikuman.
