These articles always make me chuckle. Especially when you hate something.

I had passed over Vandread for its obvious frivolity, but if Funimation is streaming it, I might give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Glad that Shelf Life is finally reviewing stream anime, which being way way down south (near Antarctica) is probably the only way I can watch anime legitly.

I have to admit, I started watching Ristorante Paridiso due solely to its weirdness factor (old man with glasses fetish??? What were they thinking???) but now honestly enjoy watching it for its beautiful moody art and the awesome old men (and yes they are awesome).

And no matter how ugly the character design for Nicoletta is, Claudio is still the hottest 50+ anime person I've ever set eyes on.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but does anyone else feel compelled to make a probably inappropriate comparison between Ristorante and Ouran?

(By "inappropriate," I mean it should not apply)

well if we're going stream-worthy, you definitely need to check out "Requiem for the Phantom".

Oh heck, with the amount of streaming going on these days, as 2009 looks like it will go down in history as THE YEAR OF STREAMING ANIME, I would say streaming needs its own column separate from Shelf Life. After all, the Click is dead, so in theory there's a spot for "Swimming UpStream" or something like that. Anyway, the "Stream Worthy" category is a nice addition to the column. I dig it. And I may have to check out Vandread, since from that description it sounded kinda like Gurren Lagann, if you replace "humans" and "beastmen" with "men" and "women", respectively.

I'm glad to see streaming introduced.

Why does everyone have this luxurious basements?! I need one. I mean not a basement just the luxury part.

I still want to see Kiba- it only for my favorite song in the world right now- Stay Gold by Limelight.

Anyhoo, just wanted to give my two, wrinkly, thumbs up at the idea of adding a streamed series to the column. Especially if more titles start to become available that way, it will be nice to have a way of separating the wheat from the chaff.

No, not really. It gave me Antique Bakery and Bartender vibes instead.

I liked Vandread as a whole. The first season has pretty lame CG that actually does drag down the show in my opinion, and they're mostly just setting things up. Second season is where stuff starts getting serious, and a lot better.

Bamboo: The DBZ double feature you reviewed actually is the last one. That is until when/if FUNimation decides to re-release the DragonBall movies (the first of which has yet to recieve a bi-lingual release). Or if they decide to license something that'll make them money in the case of the recent "Yo! Son Goku and friends return!" special.

I sampled a couple of series from Crunchyroll, and what annoyed me was that they have their logo appear every so often. That's more distracting than if they had their logo on from start to finish. If not for that, I'd definitely be watching Ristorante Paridiso since it seems to be a real change in pace from most anime like Emma was.

I'd be highly tempted to move Vandread from the rental space to the shelf. It was one of those series that I was intrigued by the storyline description enough to take a chance on it. At first I wasn't too sure about it, but as characters were fleshed out and storylines progressed, the show really grew on me. Although I'm sure there would be better ways of handling the nuances, the whole "men vs. women" theme was interesting in its treatment in this particular show.

No, more like men+women = spirals, and the bad guys = anti-spirals.

I can only agree on the Kiba critisism.. The story doesn't get better when the main character reveals his spoiler[EPIC mother complex.. He pretty much wines for half the show because of his mother.... And his mother.. She just wants to kill him and get his shards.] But then again so would I if someone acted like he did..

Just remember, Bamboo, watch Ristorante Paradiso episode 8 and you may get a chance to win a $10 Gift Card from Olive Garden. Wink
