It's been a standard of most new (post-2020) Harvest Moon: Rune Factory (now Story of Seasons) titles to avoid gender-locking the romances. The cast (which usually makes or breaks these titles) has been enough of a mixed bag over the last few titles, but this string of characters looks like a surefire win (so long as I can go subbed and save my ears). There's probably not going to be any gender-locking stuff here either, but until it gets an official announcement I'm still going to wait and see how this one turns out.
If you can play Rune Factory 5 on a good rig, it's one of the more solid titles as of late, otherwise Azuma is going to mark the first time since Rune Factory: Frontier on the Wii that they have a full 3D, full-featured Harvest Moon game with high production value. RF5 came close, but it comes with the disclaimer that much like Disgaea 7, you can tell the game company is still feeling out their new 3D engine and aren't 100% up to par with their past historical greats - not quite yet at least. I hope Azuma is the slam dunk the series needs right now. |

It was announced a while ago that same-gender romance is a thing, and some of the trailers have shown it. No gender locks! (Can't remember the specific trailers and sources but I have seen them.) The one exception is the other-gendered PC who becomes an NPC if you're not playing as them, and that's for obvious reasons.

Hopefully the Switch performance is good. RF5 while good really suffered on the Switch because of loading times and slow-downs. At least some of the RNG was not as bad as the original Rune Factory 4 release. Might have to double-dip at launch to get the collectors' edition for Switch and play on PC this time.

There are quite a few gods you can romance in this game, judging from the trailers...
Pilika seems to be Ainu (or at least whatever the equivalent of Ainu is in this setting), which is a nice touch. |
