Some shoujosei fans raged alot when this was announced, but since than there were plenty of different shoujosei titles getting TV anime treatment, so I hope people will either ignore this series or take it for what it is.

Incels and homophobes rage when a yaoi, shojo, or josei genre gets a TV anime. Nothing new. Regardless, as long as we get an equal amount of YSJ anime to balance out all of the harem/fanservice the male audience gets, it works out in the end.

I was real confused and thought shoujosei is like a new subcategory. Do you simply mean the combination of shoujo and josei fans since they often overlap?
I'm not exactly a connoisseur of the genre but I could see where the rage is coming from... some images in the trailer did give me Bunny Drop vibe.

I think you misunderstood. The post said shoujosei fans are the ones raging. I don't imagine incels and homophobes are the shoujosei fans in question...

In this situation I saw more anger coming from people who actually consume shoujo rather than people who don't.

Yes, and it's a common label people who like both demographics use. Just look around Twitter or Youtube.

The reason why shojosei fans were upset at this was because of a couple of reasons:
1. Their fave was snubbed. Their fave usually being A Sign of Affection, A Condition Called Love and so on.
2. This series' subject matter being an age gap romance with a 26 year-old man pretending to be a high schooler, and a specific chapter that leaves a bad taste in their mouths.

I’m in because I’ll watch anything with Umehara in it. Looks like it could be cute/funny!

you read that wrong. i read lot of shoujo and this manga is despicable. the male lead is literally creepy control freak that grooming female lead and cutting her social life to make her dependent on him. there are much much better shoujo series to be adapted there and they chose this filth. it doesn't take to be incels or homophobes to hate this manga. but you have prosecution fetish, and already made up the scenario on your mind, soo...

If the person I'm replying to used "shoujosei" to mean the shoujo and josei content audience, no I didn't misunderstand. What I'm saying is that regardless of which side/morality people are using as a basis to oppose this anime, I gladly welcome any anime/manga to balance out the harem/fanservice that the male audience receives every single season.
There are plenty of ignorant people who clearly can't separate fiction from reality and thus get butthurt over a simple story. That about sums it up for those angry that this is getting an anime adaptation.
Either way, as long as they show plenty of fanservice catered to the female/gay audience in this anime, it's a plus in my book.

I liked his voice acting in Romantic Killer and Snow White with The Red Hair. We really need a 3rd season of Snow White with The Red Hair. I miss his voice acting from Mitsuhide.

Akarin and Yuichiro Umehara in an age-gap romance with a dash of Yakuza? I can dig it!

The sentiment and the language you're using is contradictory. On the one hand, you're championing for more inclusive content. On the other end, your comments are derogatory to those who are in the communities whom you're supposedly championing for.
Calling shojosei fans, who are most likely women, incels and homophobes simply because they don't agree with some problematic elements of a story you like is gatekeeping. This is especially so when we consider incels refer to men who are hostile to women. To label shojosei fans who are most likely women incels for not liking certain type of shojosei stories is like saying that they are not 'real' women because of that. I'm not going deeper than this but the implication is clear.
Moreover, straight romance, even those catered to a female audience, is not necessarily inclusive of, and can sometime outright discriminate against gay audience. I don't know this title in particular, but it doesn't look like there's any gay-friendly content in it. And it seems like what people find controversial in this title has nothing to do with homophobia. Feminism could be but is not necessarily supportive of gay rights.

The character designs look good for the main protagonists. The relationship between them reminds me of the ones from Inu X Boku SS, but in a more realistic non-fantasy/yokai setting.

This right here. Indeed, this particular series has no reason to rail on homophobes, it has no gay ship tease or bait, the story is only focused on a straight relationship.
And I also agree on shoujosei spaces not always welcoming queer content. When SasaMiya anime got announced, there were plenty of people from this community very vocal about their displeasure of "fake shoujo with homo shit" getting animated instead of popular het series. Not to say there are many of them, but they definitely exist. The same category of people make fun of Yuri and BL series sometimes too, despite never reading those genres.

Another Umehara lead show? I like the guy but I'm tired hearing his one-voice on every single shows this season. Not even Matsuoka / Kaji Yuki has this many roles in one season during their peak, and they have more range too.
