I haven't looked at the actual legislation yet, but looks like, lolicon or not, animated or drawn or whatever, bringing pornographic images of children into Australia will get you busted.

Maybe the way that sentence was worded was so ambiguous that it gave the impression that the journalist believes that anime is nothing more than pornographic material. Seriously though, if the journalist's intent was to say that anime is porn, shouldn't he/ she do at least some kind of research on anime before making that kind of accusation? |

So this is how the word gets out, leading people to think "Anime = Porn" I was talking to my art teacher about ideas for my ART major and he says to me "what do u like, hobbys?? etc etc", I replied "anime, football..." and he butts in and says "..What? anime??..those Animated pornos???" I started laughing, while at the same time...pissed... -DaZ |

That statement came close to making me sick cause it only shows one of two possibilities, the journalist knows not a single thing about anime, or he's obsessed with hentai, and as a journalist, that statement was a major fallacy. If his problem is the former, he needs to go out and study more, if it's the latter, well, I think we should know what he needs to do if it's the latter.
Also, I use the terms "journalist" and "he" loosely because it was members of the staff, whose name(s) they did not specify. |

The Power of the Media, bringing down anime and anime fans.
Thats their goal for sure. They dont care about what is right or wrong, they're just focused on getting their articles out there to the people to read and believe. |

Normal porn (as in, porn featuring real humans - I'm not ready to agree that the other kind is necessarily "abnormal") isn't okay in Australia. They have extremely repressive laws about it. See, for instance, the recent government push to crack down on the Net: http://www.australianit.news.com.au/story/0,24897,22218715-15306,00.html Given that kind of thing, I'm actually surprised all they did was fine this guy. It's no surprise that they would include animated pornography in a ban when they're already banning non-animated. |
