Call him "2002 boy". I've seen better cutscenes in videogames circa that time. Should have had a more innocent look to him too.

Impressive voice cast though.

That's a little creepy....j/k.
But, he most likely will take it off. Astro Boy has worn clothes before, and as I said in the last thread on this, the screenshots they've shown thus far all show him shirtless.

Well at the least I think this will be better than Dragonball. I'll give it a chance when it comes out.

The graphics aren't supposed to be "impressive". It's supposed to be a new version of the anime, which, by all means, had extremely crappy animation, even if it was superb for the time. I think it looks fitting.

Cute. It's sad that I have more confidence in it than DB, though, when that one should be easier to pull off with today's CG. I'm just wondering if they'll be able to deal with the themes of mechanization prominent in the manga. I'm also wary, because Speed Racer had a good trailer, too. But since the company has experience with kiddie audiences through TMNT, I'm sure they won't pad that sucker past the 150 minute mark like the Wachowskis. Anyway, I hope this gives Dark Horse an excuse to release more of those bigger Astroboy manga books.

Speed Racer was a fantastic movie. It only had three problems. One - horrible marketing, Two - run time, Three - Critics unable to identify that the film they were watching was MEANT to be cartoonish.

I'm wary of Astro Boy though. The cast list alone gives me good reason to be.

ok, so long story short, I think its absolutely hideous and I was never thrilled about Freddie Highmore doing Astro's VO (I just don't think he's the right actor for this). And I'm not too thrilled with its CGI, rather American CGI in particular, look. And the laughing was lame and I wasn't quite sure what Astro was doing with his legs.

But, my raging inner Tezuka fandom will not allow me to not give them $10 to see it in theatres. Hopefully going into it with low expectations will be a good thing, but I'm open to watching it without going insane over the CGI issues. Not the most exciting trailer I've ever seen, I'm still going based on name recognition alone here, lets hope we get a more exciting trailer by February. What month is it supposed to come out?

I think I'll watch the 2003 Astro Boy series instead. They'd be better off showing that in the theater.

Fanboys are out in force again.

going to see this, not just because its based off an manga/anime, but because the film actually looks good.

Splitter: The marketing was fine. It probably did better selling the film than the actual film itself. I'm glad we agree that it was too long, though. And critics had nothing to do with its success or failure either way. But even if they did, the problem wasn't the fact that it was cartoonish, but that it wasn't cartoonish enough, and they actually tried to make it "realistic".

This looks alright. But he needs to loose the shirt. I'll agree with that creepy idea. This looks a lot better than DB though.
