Well, the UK has a release month, but what about the US? =P
Anyway, I read about Miyazaki and always penciling his movies on Yahoo yesterday. I think that's so cool, sticking to the traditional media instead of transfering to the digital means. ^^

God bless you,Mr. Miyazaki... . I know this is wishful thinking, but I'd love to see him direct another LUPIN III movie.

Really? So you dislike animation that uses digital techniques? I guess in some fashion I can admire not using it but I certainly don't think animation is worse for it.

Bah. I'd have preferred to see The Sky Crawlers here instead of more Miyazaki. At least this'll keep kids entertained.

MIyazaki has been openly anti-technological in most of his works so that's nothing new...He essentially despises what makes his movies possible. And that's one of the reason I can't really stand most, if not all his works.

A little harsh perhaps, but essentially I agree. Along with the film's mythological aspect, this was the reason I couldn't really enjoy Princess Mononoke.

I think you guys are getting it all wrong. It's more got to do with his work ethics.
He is a type of person who values good draftsmanship rather than over-dependency of computers for everything. Miyazaki lauded Pixar's works and his recent animations' coloring and FX are done in computer. It's just that some people are becoming lazy and produce half-ass visual works even with wonderful advantages of CG.

I'm glad Miyazaki keeps doing what he's doing.Hand drawn animation is still the best quality,to me anyway.New age animation has lost that little touch of humanity.People like pretty things though.Ponyo was awesome.Just wait till it comes out. It's got parts that looked like a nightmare to animate, and would have a completely different feel if it wasn't hand drawn.

I don't know about you guys, but I often times find myself simply in awe over the level of amazing detail and fluidity in many old hand-drawn productions from the '80s and '90s. What some animators could accomplish back then without the aid of computers is just incredible. When it's done right, pencil, ink, and paper productions can blow even the best modern animation out of the water!

I'm glad to see someone in the anime industry actively looking to train up fresh blood for the future. With so many in the craft dropping like flies lately, it needs them badly, However having said that, he'll be lucky to see 70 himself if he don't give up the fags.

Japan has, from what I remember, one of the highest life expectancy rates, as well as one of the largest nations of cigarette smokers in the world. Chances are he's going to see past seventy.
Subsequently, since when did Miyazaki 'hate' CG? I remember that he personally disliked using it and felt it wasn't right, but when Toy Story came out, he was relieved to know that it could be used to create works on-par with 2d Animation. His only real beef so far has been that CG is being used incorrectly, to churn out a higher rate of low-quality products than ever before.
Everyone just dramatises the christ out of this sort of thing.

Yeah, when we have something that the media isn't involved in enough to polarize it or overdramatize it, it seems people have become quite good at doing that for themselves..

But it's also a lot more expensive, and is more likely to yield subpar results. Yeah, the 80s and 90s had some impressive work, but it also had a lot more really piss poor work that was full of shortcuts and workarounds, so it's a double edged sword. CG can be used well and can be used effectively and looks great when that's the case, just like hand-drawn. But just like hand-drawn, the studio needs to be willing to get the talent and spend the money to do it, so in reality, nothing's really changed between the two.
