Okay, I just realized after reading the latest chapter, that geologically I have no idea what the Grand Line is.

From what I recall of Nami's explanation at the start, the world One Piece takes place in is divided by a ring shaped continent that makes two oceans. Luffy and his crew starts on the eastern ocean, and somehow enters the grand line.

Just what is it? Are they simply traveling along the equator or is the grand line the entire western sea? And what about this new land that a few of the pirates in shank + white beard's crew have been talking about? Leaves me kind of clueless as to where they are @@:

The world of One Piece is divided into six major seas, East Blue, West Blue, North Blue, South Blue, the Grand Line, and The New World.

Basically there is a single continent-sized landmass that runs vertically around the world, called "the Red Line", that's probably about as thick around as the thinnest point of Mexico (above the Yucatan).

Then there is the "Grand Line", which is the equatorial belt of the planet, and is bounded on either side by dulldrum zones which have no wind (and therefore cannot be sailed through), and are patrolled by massive monsters, so effectively north and south are cut off almost completely.

I forget how the major seas are arranged, but essentially the "East Blue" is actually more the "North East" one. Presumable "North Blue" would be the one in the other Northern hemisphere. That would place West Blue probably directly below that (South West), and South Blue due South of East Blue. I think.

The "New World" is the second half of the Grand Line, separated from the first by hitting the Red Line on the other side. It's apparently even more dangerous.

The crew has never (and probably never will) visted North, South, or West Blue. They are apparently not very interesting places to be.
