We don't have a lot of Takehiko Inoue fan here, but I decide to post this anyways. I just pick up both of the Vagabond artbooks (Sumi & Water) that was release in oct. Water is a color artbook, Sumi is Black & White. It was expensive as hell (almost 40 per book, even though the actual book only cost about 25 in japan), but it was worth it. I haven't had a chance to actually go through them as I'm so busy these day.
![]() ![]() Here's what it look like shrink warped. If you ever own a japanese artbook, you know they're oversized (9" x 12). They're freaking huge and heavy. The paper quality is top-notch. Preview of Sumi (Black and White) pages: ![]() The small inserted card above the book show Inoue in his workplace, creating Vagabond. ![]() ![]() *the inserted card that came with the book shown above. Vagabond > 95% of manga being release here. Last edited by darkhunter on Tue Sep 04, 2007 12:37 pm; edited 4 times in total |

I have to admit, Vagabond's art is real purdy. Purdy enough to warrant paying that much money for an artbook, even.

I'm not to fond of the watercolor medium in general, so I'll stay away from Water. But I'll probably end up picking up SUmi later down the road.

Very nice. I've only recently been added to the Inoue fold but I definitely appreciate his artwork.
OT, it's been a while since I've seen you around these parts, darkhunter! Last time I saw you around here I still lived in Minnesota. |

I have better pictures of the Water artbook. I linked them below because they are huge and you can see the detail better. The water artbook impress me more, and it has a lot more new art that was added. From what I heard, choose to do it with water color that is reminisint of Musashi's own painting. Hey Cloe, welcome to Southern California What do you think of it so far? I hope you finding your way around because I still have a hard time with direction around here. ![]() |

Oh, man. Just barely. I still get lost very easily, but my biggest problem right now is snow withdrawal. I need it! All this warmth and sun is driving me crazy. But I'm enjoying SoCal a lot more than I thought I would. Back OT, I love good watercolor paintings. Ever since Photoshop and other digital coloring programs came along, the real thing is becoming more and more scarce. I love Inoue's watercolors, particularly the one in the 2nd picture with the leaves flying around. I like how he's able to use simple blotches of color to define shape and form, which is what the essence of fine art painting is all about. Really amazing stuff. |

I'm not big into artbooks (especially if I have to import them), but these look exellent. I'd be espeically keen on seeing more of his color work.
A guy I work part-time with is from Cal, and pretty much all he talks about is how is sucks here compared to there (the winter is too cold/the summer is too hot/the drivers are too mean etc.) I hadn't even noticed you moved there, but hope it's working out. |

Ah, I want them both, especially the Sumi artbook. While I've enjoyed the coloring used in the Vagabond releases and what is given here in Water by Inoue, I'm an absolute sucker for his black and white material. Certain pieces work better without colors, and in my opinion Inoue's art is one of them. His stuff is just downright GORGEOUS to look at.
While I'm willing to import, I'm praying for the (very unlikely) miracle that Viz might bring these over and give them golden treatment.
Quoted for bloody truth.
Heh, that's one of the things my dad has made note of ever since coming back to Columbus. After about twelve years living out in the glorious pacific northwest, he comes back and experiences the east, or in this case the ugly midwest. |

Cali weather is really nice. It makes it easier to go to work and school when you wake up and it's warm outside.
Funny, all the seinen fan I thought that was gonna post on this thread actually did. ![]() BTW, is there any good seinen manga coming out? The latest manga I pick up was Ode to Kihito, Okkihoshi. Other than that, I guess on my buy list is Mushishi and Shaman Warrior, but that's about it. |

Suposidly Ponent Mon is releasing "AWABI" from Kan Takahama this year (judging by how good her previous collection is I'd say it would easily be one of the best titles of the year), but knowing them we won't see it till sometime in mid-2007. Last Gasp (another obscure company) is releasing the award-winning "Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms," which is an exellent book about Hiroshima, but again I have no idea when they're actually going to ship it. |

I just ordered these art books from Amazon.co.jp, dude where did you buy them for 40 bucks each, I ordered mine for around 30. Inoue Takehiko is one of my favourite mangakas. These artbooks look really nice, I have the Illustrations one of Slam Dunk.
Kagemusha, Ponent Mon will be releasing Shissou Nikki in Spain this December, with a little luck they'll do an English language version too. Actually, I've looked on their website and it says they are working on it, but as you say who knows when it'll be released. I want Town of the Evening Calm as well, but I don't know when it's released... |

A japanese shop near my work place. i check online store call animaxis and they had it for 23 bux, but shipping was like 15 bux. Ebay was around 40 dollar with 15 dollar shipping from Japan. Yesasia, around 35 dollar with free shipping from the US, so it's not bad. I also consider Amazon.co.jp but with shipping it comes out to about 35 bux anyways and you have to deal with custom and wait.
Not bad at all, I heard great things about Kan Takahama and will look foward to Awabi. |
