So, I saw Marvel's film Guardians of the Galaxy recently and noticed what I thought were some interesting anime influences in it. I wasn't sure where to share my impressions, so I figured I'd throw'em onto ann since (by my recollection) there are a few old-school anime fans here who might appreciate it (beware, spoilers!):
...So what do you all think? I don't think it's a bizarre coincidence, and of course it wouldn't be the first time a (technically) Disney film was inspired by Japanese works (or vice versa). I still think Guardians of the Galaxy is a great and fun original film, I just thought the similarities were strong enough to warrant comment. ----------------------------------------------- This is an interesting article I learned about from my brother, apparently digital artists on the development team for GOTG actually used the robots from Laputa Castle in the Sky as references for the development of Groot's character. http://www.gnomonschool.com/blog/uncategorized/event-recap-making-guardians-galaxy It makes sense, since both the robots and Groot are tall, lanky, their arms stretch and can form different shapes and they're both nature-oriented, protective types.
