Now, this sounds promising, hope it goes well over there then they might bring it over here to the UK...even on titles that wouldn't get a normal DVD release. Perhaps it'll be possible to even get series that wouldn't be released over here at all.
Though I have to admit I do like the feel of collecting and owning proper R2 UK released anime DVD's...Too much of a collector I guess. |

i wonder what the price is.
I guees if it were around $3-4 and you got the first 4 episodes that'd be $12-$16 which is cheaper than a dvd. But you don't get extras and what not so...hm. Nor do you get the Japanese version. i'll wait to see the price though i probably won't buy it. |

Edit: Oh, wait. No. It said that the anime will be dubbed, and supposedly the DN download will be subtitled only. |

That's cute, but as long as it has DRM, I won't be buying it. I'd also prefer sub over dub, but that's not an absolute show-stopper. DRM is an absolute show-stopper.

This is great. This is pretty much the best solution that people have come up with to solve the issue of illegally downloading fansubs.
Though, unless it's big series and at like $2 an ep, I have no real desire to buy dubs. If VIZ's death note release was on iTunes, I'd be glad to pay for it....but by the looks of this it looks like it's not gonna happen (Since DN was reported to be subbed DLs) |

This is really exciting. I'm not even that particular as to what series will be available, because just the fact that any will be available is something great. A step in the right direction.
I'm rambling. Anyways. Can't wait to see how this develops during the coming week! :33 |

I'm a pretty regular TV show buy from iTunes so this is great news for me. Just wondering what titles will be released.
HOPEFULLY they won't be the standard $1.99 a ep. and do something cheaper. Getting a show by the season will usually save you a couple of bucks too so if you buy in "bulk" they might be even cheaper. Dub/Sub makes no difference to me. Although reading subs on that tiny little screen might cause us to go blind!! |

Hopefully this will open the venue for other competing music businesses to do like wise. So the option will be not just iTunes, but also Napster, Rapsodey, etc.
Does sound promising. I can see why Subs would not fair too well on this format. LOL, "micro-reading" isn't what I would look forward too on an anime on my Palm or iPod. ~td99 |

Now, this is a reason for the sub-only crowd to care about dubs - mass market, mainstream exposure of who-knows-what shows.
I mean, this was already true, but people casually checking out anime for the first time (or any time) will not be drawn in by weird-sounding, badly done voice acting. Regardless of whether or not they would like the show in the first place (as I said, who knows what will be on sale? There are a lot of titles that are not exactly 'accessible' to the American Mass Market), readily available, bad dubs will not be good publicity. Remember, in this situation, it's not like someone introducing a friend to anime, where he or she could hear what the friend didn't like, make suggestions of what's better, or offer the subbed version. This means someone downloading an episode without the option of subs, or even the suggestion that they are available (and just maybe better). That's all they will have on which to make a judgment. This could mean both a judgment on whether to watch (pay for) more, as well as a judgment on anime fans and how to treat them. Granted, there is the same problem with anime channels or On Demand, but a lot more people have iTunes than Anime Network. I'm not counting adult swim, because anybody watching adult swim is already sitting through stuff like Aqua Teen and Harvey Birdman. Also, I'm not all that pessimistic about it, really. Dub quality is getting better (positive thinking) and it probably isn't going to be thrown in everyone's faces as soon as they open iTMS. I'm just sayin'. P.S.: Also, I'm not really a Dub person, but I watch 'em from time to time. I'm trying to learn Japanese, so I like listening to the original... gah, I'm just going to end the post already. [Edit]:

This should be an interesting thing to watch, and see how it pans out. It's also a good step up by the industry to branch out beyond the DVD medium. For me, though, I have no real interest in this, since I prefer the physical medium that DVDs have to offer.

I can also understand that subs may not be a good thing on an iPod.
It's great that anime is becoming more widely available. More money for the distributors to spend on those expensive titles. 
I hope that the launch has loads of great titles on it. |

Sounds interesting.
But what anime titles are being sold through iTunes? If it is like Pokemon, or Yu-gi-oh I don't it would generate much excitement with the hardcore anime fans. |

But wait a minute, weren't they trying to throw out that DRM licencing (or should I say if they are approaching it)...or does iTunes only trying to throw out those DRM licences for their songs?..
Another question, just for curiousity...which anime company do you think is going to release their titles on iTunes first? |
