Just restarting this thread due to the former thread being irrelevant to the topic at hand: GTO.
Other than that, definitely love it that they did the whole collection! It wouldn't be complete without the 14 Days in Shonen.

This is great news! Really hopping GTO can also get a physical print run again too! It's such a fantastic series.

An anime reboot (the 20+ year old animation is showing its age) and extension would be welcome.
The anime ends with Onizuka introducing himself to the class on the first day of school somewhere in the USA.

This is a digital rerelease of the Vertical edition, correct? (I don't have volumes handy but it looks familiar...)

Tokyopop published the original GTO, and judging by the pages shown in the article the new digital edition will be identical. I'm guessing 14 Days in Shonan will likewise be identical to the Vertical edition.
Now if only they'd do The Early Years as well...

It's nice to see this classic title getting the digital treatment. It's been a while since I read it, and I never bought any of the volumes. I got lucky that my library got them over time. I might be interested in getting some digital copies though.

I still own the original 1st volume TokyoPop version. Five years ago I tried to find (in vain} used copies of the other 24 volumes. I'll be sure to pre-order these. I don't say this often about manga releases but thank you Kodansh Comics!
Wasn't it around the 14th volume where it ended in the anime?

A digital rerelease is nice, but not even a retranslation from Tokyopop like Initial D was treated is kinda yikes. And I doubt they'll ever get reprints either. At least put it free for Prime members like you do for Shaman King if you're not even gonna retranslate it.

Great news! I was just pointing out to someone that the full Tokyopop run is regularly in the $800-$1000 range on the secondhand market, so it's good to see it actually be available again.

While a new translation would be ideal, the scanlations I tried reading were so horrendous that I'll take any official translation over them any day of the week.

This used to be one of my favorite anime, even knowing that the final two episodes is kind of a forced, sudden anime-original ending that felt tacked on. When I read the manga afterwards, I was shocked by how much the anime left out of the earlier sections. With a legal method of reading it, I highly recommend everyone to check out the manga. It's kind of a legendary series about one of Japan's greatest characters, not to mention a beautiful tribute to the 90s/very early 00s.

The "Onidzuka" ones with the colored bubbles over the JP text? Gives me nausea just thinking about it.
At least the translation in the TP volumes of GTO isn't as awful as Initial D, but come the hell on Kodansha, don't cheap out.

It's a digital-only release, so this isn't surprising. Viz literally did the same thing back in 2014 with the Viz Select line, but at least Kodansha actually has bothered to finish a series that TP never did, as seen with Initial D.
Had GTO been planned for a physical release as well, then I'm sure Kodansha would have at least given it the Shaman King treatment & fix up the original English translation. At that point, you already have to do new typesetting, lettering, & whatnot, so fine-tuning the OG translation isn't too much of an extra expense, but if it's digital-only you can literally just re-use the original pages from the first release.

yeah I'm honestly kinda surprised they didn't also do The Early Years (Shonan Junai Gumi) since they went ahead & did 14 Days in Shonan
