This could be a silly post, but I noticed that the overly-played song "shake your tailfeathers" [or something] mentions Voltron.
Also, BNL mentions Sailor Moon in the song "one week"
I just thought it was funny that they were mentioned. Anyone know of any other mainstream songs that mention some anime?

A friend caught a reference to First Gundam, more specifically to Big Zam, in a Rage Against the Machine song. I'm not sure which song, though.

It's not a direct reference to a particular anime, but Rush's song "Animate" from the Counterparts album is part and parcel plea for romance and tribute to anime (Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart, and Getty Lee are all BIG Robotech fans and that's led to other anime interests).
Just take a look at the lyrics. There's no "official list" as to which characters they're referring to, but it's fun to guess. (keep in mind that the album came out in 1993)
Polarize me
Sensitize me
Criticize me
Civilize me
Compensate me
Animate me
Complicate me
Elevate me
Goddess in my garden
Sister in my soul
Angel in my armor
Actress in my role
Daughter of a demon lover
Empress of the hidden face
Priestess of the pagan mother
Ancient queen of inner space
Spirit in my psyche
Double in my role
Alter in my image
Struggle for control
Mistress of the dark unconscious
Mermaid of the lunar sea
Daughter of the great enchantress
Sister to the boy inside of me
My counterpart, my foolish heart
A man must learn to rule his tender part
A warming trend, a gentle friend
A man must build a fortress to defend
A secret face, a touch of grace
A man must learn to give a little space
A peaceful state, a submissive trait
A man must learn to gently dominate
Polarize me
Sensitize me
Criticize me
Civilize me
Compensate me
Animate me
Complicate me
Elevate me

Also, The Lead Singer of Linkin Park is a BIG Gundam fan. (i don't know if the rest of the band is.) You can see Gundam Model Kits on the shelves in their "Somewhere I Belong" Video. Also, their first CD's remix cover was decorated with a gundam-esque big mech.

I've had some trouble trying to make out some of the lyrics in that verse, but from what I can tell there seems to actually be three anime references. (Well, technically - one anime reference, one vague DBZ/Japanese reference [and mayyyybe a second DBZ reference to go with it, but that seems to be stretching probability a bit], and one old skool American action 'toon reference.)
Though I'm not sure about their validity (especially since I have the album, and it doesn't provide them) many sites give the lyrics as follow:
I`m not hard I`ve got women to handle that,
They be like he the man when I`m really a Thundercat.
Come on you know the tics connect like Voltron,
Collect so much grass popo thinking we mow lawns.
My gohans don`t match that,
But it matches her head wrap and the seats that I got in the lap.

Rap is so funny sometimes...
My friend Melissa also said that some Smashmouth song mentions Digimon, but she can't remember the name.

"Po po" refers to the police. "Gohans" probalby really isn't gohans, but one or two other words that you didn't catch because you were searching for anime references.

Rob Zombie has a song called "Super Charger Heaven," where he mentions Devilman in the lyrics.

Actually, it was White Zombie and he wasn't talking about the anime.

The most memorable one freom recent memory is the Barenaked Ladies song One Week:
"Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
Cause that cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing"
Also, Daft Punk had their videos animated by Leiji Matsumoto.

Rob Zombie, White Zombie - same guy.
Another song that comes to mind is "Tears of the Dragon" by Bruce Dickinson (of Iron Maiden fame). While not really anime-related, you can't help but think the song describes Crying Freeman.

True, but that's kind of like saying that Justin Timberlake is the same as 'N Sync.
