There was a thread on anime marathons not to long ago, and I thought I'd make one for manga. Though not nearly as common as anime marathons, it would be nice to hear other people's manga marathon stories.
Every interest that I have taken up during my life usually plunges me into a new era of obession, turning me into a zombified hermit. In this case it would obviously be manga. Of course with this in mind, a manga marathon was inevitable. I have just recently come off a berserk manga marathon vols 1-30 within a 5 day time span, only taking breaks for the essentials (eating, pooping, and sleeping). My eyeballs has neared their limits during the last few vols I read; I was going blind. Its quite hard to keep your eyes open when you read for 9 hours straight...yep, their were about to explode. But I was too entralled with the story to stop. I harnessed my inner chi and stapled my eyes open, and made it through (with the help of copius amounts of caffenine). I never had so much fun reading manga ever .
It all started with boredom. I needed to kill some time before I had to go to school, and on a whim, started to read berserk. Before I knew it, I had skipped school, and work the following day. Whoops. Oh well, it was worth it. I don't know what took me so long to pick this one up. But I was so happy that I had 30 vols to catch up on. Truely, a blissful 5 days it has been.
Now that I think back on it, I did a semi-marathon with vagabond not too long before the berserkathon. Vols 1-17 within a few days. I don't really remember how long exactly. But nontheless, good stuff. Not nearly as good as berserk in my humble opinion, but still good stuff.

Yeah, I hear ya. Normally I'm not much of a marathon person, but some series really are better read all at once. For me, it was mostly shonen series: 17 volumes of Inu-Yasha in one sitting, 20 volumes of Naruto in two days, ect. ect. I would have read One Piece in mostly one sitting if it wasn't so energetic: I could only read it about 20 chapters at a time.

I'm actually more likely to have a manga marathon than an anime one, believe it or not. This probably stems from the fact that I've been a bibliophile for as long as I remember; it just sort of carries over into other aspects.
My recent marathons include the first 12 volumes of Glass Mask over the course of perhaps eight hours and all of Hikaru no Go in two days. Other than that, I've been rereading a number of series that I own in chunks, generally taking about three hours for seven volumes.
However, my biggest marathon recently hasn't been manga; it's been the childrens'/young adult book series Warriors by Erin Hunter. Each book is about 300 pages long, and it took me a day to read each one.

I tend to marathon series once I complete them or if I started when they were over, so I haven't marathoned too much, especially since the longer series are still coming out in English, so most of my marathons have been shorter stuff like Ultra Maniac and Tokyo Babylon. I techincally marathoned X/1999 and 1-19 of GTO, but there were breaks in between volumes to go pick them up, but I think they were all read back to back.
My longest attempted straight marathon was Maison Ikkoku, but that proved to be very daunting. It's almost more frustrating than enjoyable marathoning it, so I wasn't able to do it without a few day's break, especially since I wanted to skip chapters and stories that weren't that important.
The longest marathon I've done so far was 6-16 of Dragon Ball. It was one of those cases where "one more chapter" turned into another three books.
I am preparing myself to marathon Kenshin when volume 28 comes out in English next month. I'm anxious to see if I can do it.

I've had a few small marathons, where I read all of shorter series within a few hours (I did this for Magic Knights Rayearth and the last four volumes of Chobits).
The only full-out marathon I've done would be when I spent one Canada Day (July 1st for those who didn't know) re-reading the entire Mars series, including the Gaiden. So 16 volumes in one day. It was fun.

I found vol. 2-5 of Fruits Basket that I'd lost to the Abyss of the Garage, so now I'm going to do a Fruits Basket marathon, books 1-20. Should take me only two to three days. When I do a One Piece marathon, it takes me about four days to read all 40 volumes.
