I recently bought a new (yayy) video Ipod. Just a few seconds ago, It then dawned on me thatsed Ipod, being able to hold videos, could therefore hold...anime! However, as 99.999% of my anime is on DVD, I am at a loss as to how to convert DVD into MP4, the Ipod's only readable format ._.

I have a converter that converts MPG, MPEG, and AVI files into MP4 files for the Ipod. If I could just figure out how to get my DVD videos into that format on my PC, i'd be able to put them on my Ipod.

anyone know how to do this...or if it's even possible... Question

(I'd experiment, however, I tried with my collateral DVD and I fried it. Needless to say, I do NOT want to go and fry my precious anime DVDS ._.)

Although I have not specifcally changed mpegs into MP4 formatting I have been able to change mpegs into mp3s and wavs(as far as video goes) with A program called Nero that subsides into Nero 6 Ultra Edition which then has the program Nero Wave Editor. I will provide screenshots of what I mean (Edit:=voila) but I am confident that that program will solve your problems. Although I'm just a little weary that this post may have best been sutied for bugs-and technical questions...

If you look at the picture you can see that the program can convert mpegs and other similar files files into MP4 format. I'd also suggest simply "ripping" the DVD file of your DVD onto your computer and save them using Windows Media Player.

Go with DVD Decrypter & Videora iPod Converter -- both free (as in beer), and here's a very easy to follow guide:

Thanks guys! I will try both, and btw I'm using the videora Ipod converter. But how do I use a dvd decrypters.....

**EDIT!!!!

ok, as you may not have already found out, I'm 100% new to turning out a DVD into a file I can send into my Ipod. So, I have to ask if all this appears on my desktop, any what it all is.

((((I am using DVD decrypter and Videora Ipod converter))))

Currently, I am transfering the .VOB file I got from the DVD decrypter when I finished decrypting the first disc of Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum. So far, the following have arrived on my desktop:

MP4 file, Evangelion Platinum 01
Unknown file type, xvidff.5UDQjz
two MStextpad documents

I believe the first file will go to my Ipod directly, as thats what I would do if i were to send a converter AVI to my ipod. However, the below strange file leads me to believe otherwise, and makes me nervous. What is it, and what does it mean?

It's fir things like this that I bought a Zen Vision M =P
I currently have all of my Eva Platinum from DVD onto my Vision M, all of Gundam Seed from DVD, first Elfen Lied DVD, and Suzuka subbed and Kashimashi Subbed on my Vision M =P
Hooray for XVID, DIVX, and WMV support!

The reason that that happened is probably something you did when you ripped your VOBs
When you ripped them, did you select and audio stream to mux?
It seems that either you got rid of all of the audio streams, or you managed to process them into something the ipod converter can't read.
When you play the dvd on your computer, whatever the default audio is, that's the first stream. On DVD Decrypter, you can choose to get rid of all of the other audio streams. On Eva Plat, the english audio stream is the first one with 5.1 sound (which should be noted on DVD D)

Your second question, each VOB is a separate part of the disc, you can rip them all at the same time, but they have to be processed separately. Be sure to preview them first, as some VOBs are menus etc. Just use DVD Decrypter and see which VOBs are 22-23 mins in length, then rip those.

If there is no sound. Maybe it could be a codec problem. Most anime that you watch on a pc requires a codec.

Hey NyuuChan, yeah it is rather neat converting from VOB to compressed AVI manually. Did you try the Cucusoft converters?

Cucusoft DVD to iPod converter 3.15

Cucusoft iPod video conter 3.06

Or the whole suite (both in one): Cucusoft iPod Video Converter + DVD to iPod Converter Suite 3.6.3.15

Try those first, and if they aren't sufficient or do not produce good results, then go rip the DVDs and encode manually like you usually do.

Thanks for all of the help guys, I'm going to get on trying this all right away Very Happy

However. I still only got ep.1 on the disc to come through...once I get that workin with sound, how do I get the rest to my PC (into .VOB files that is)

**EDIT!!

ok, I have gottten ep.2 of Evangelion Platinum on there fine, english track, everything runs perfect. HOWEVER it seems I have created another problem for myself Embarassed

Since the original .VOB for EVA 01 didn't work right, I deleted it. When i redid the tracks and everything, ep.2 came out fine....I thought it weas going to be ep.1....

i wonder, if i do every episode on here, will it let me start from the top with episode number one again?

**EDIT!! (again...)

Ok, another problem.....It keeps cloning episode 2 insted of moving on to the following episodes...why????

**EDIT!! (final i hope)

Ok, upon testing the CuCuSoft DVD-->Ipod converter, I found that it's only a free trial, I need to pay 25.95 for a working version....Before I do this, because it kinda all the episodes on disc one, and looked like it would work.....does anyone know for sure and can confirm that it works, before I go blow 25$?

**EDIT!! (final time for sure or my face will f***ing explode)

Ok, now that I look at it, it appears that I could load every single disc into this thing at once (assuming i use cucusoft which depends on if someone tells me if it works Anime hyper) however is that a good idea? will it make the transfer take ten million years? and also, will it even work?

**EDIT!! (ok this time i know it's the final edit!)

Ok, so I got Cucusoft working....however....it projects 17:98:09 as the time to transfer one episode...why????

Before you go and buy Cucusoft's product, you should consider the free alternative HandBrake, which is imo far better anyway. Now it's not particularly made for converting to iPod, but there's nothing special about mp4, it's just a standard format.

Encoding video is a pretty slow process, but 17 hours seems way too long, unless you have some sort of archaic system. Wink

What software(s) did you end up using? Just noticed the handbrake recommendation and didn't realize that there's a Windows version, originally it was Mac-only.

well sadly i wound up shelling out 40$ for that damn cucusoft, but it works fine. Kudos to whoever posted it! Very Happy

however i'd try all the free versions first...i'd check if they work, but going back and finding that one does will make me red eyed with anger.... Shocked

SO which way is the best for us non ipod users? I have a Creative Zen, and I have a lot of anime on DVD that I would like to convert to it. Unfortunely DVD direct rips are not supported (although I have Divx) I would like to know which programs would be the best I am also PC based if it matters. Which programs who you recommend? Thanks
