lol, that's kinda cool.
Has anyone else read 666 Satan? Don't bother. it sucks. I guess talent doesn't run in the Kishimoto family |

I never had any problems with the cover art anyway. But it's cool that these insane hardcore fandom people got proven wrong, HA!

It was pretty obvious if you compare the ADV artwork version with the actual footage that they were the same.
Purist or not the Japanese release does look more accessible. It stressed the music symbolism. Whereas, the ADV version stressed the violence and psychological trauma, hence used vectors as their motiff. It was probably more in line with their marketing strategy for the title. See for yourselves... http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search.html?type=GC&restrict=ALL&word=elfen+lied I actually had no problem with the artwork. I thought that it was more in line with the anime and the manga. Last edited by hikaru004 on Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:31 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I don't have a problem with the artwork, either; however, I did discover something about the packaging of Elfen Lied that was rather unusual: Vector 2 had a flip (reversible) cover, wheras Vector 1 did not. Any idea why this happened?

Who knows???
Do you think it was to satisfy the Nana fans? I thought that the original vector 2 cover was just fine. |

Wow, I like the Japanese covers more than the ADV ones. The main thing I hated was that they used the image of Nyuu kneeling beside the gun at least three times. Surely they could of found another image.
Also, why is the first DVD case black, and the second clear? I kind of like how the clear one shows the reversible covers, but they don't match. ![]() |

I think it's part of some sort of pattern. The back image of Vector 1 is the front of Vector 2. The back of Vector 2 is part of the front image of Vector 3. |

I really like the japanese covers. I'm just glad they aren't releasing it on 7 volumes here.

I like the japanese covers better than the ADV ones, but I didn't think/care if the covers were "official". I just didn't like them as much. I honestly had no idea some people were getting angry because they thought ADV made the covers. O_o;

Looks pretty authentic to me. And no it has not been seen anywhere.
And it's not about being "purists". Really I hate that phrase. ![]() But most of the cover art these days isn't that bad. The one issue I had so far was with vol. 1 and the artbox. While the same image was used on both the US and import versions. I didn't appreciate them adding to the piece by putting blood on her hand when there was none on the import version. To me it felt like I was being "hand-fed" the nature of the show without seeing it for myself and feeling the constrast between the beauty of the cover vs the darkness of the series. Which are both symbolic. Kinda like saying would we get more out of the 'Mona Lisa' if she smiled any harder? I'm exaggerating but you get my point. But again why bother stressing myself out about it? Besides most of the time (and I would not be surprised if this wasn't a case also) a company can't use the exact same images for various reasons. So you have to make it look as different as possible. Why else do DVD and game releases look so different from country to country? Not to mention constant changes trying to make one's look better. So it's all aestetics and nothing more. Sure we would like the import covers as is, but we get them and we get some newly produced material as well as in-house stuff. The important thing is that we have the material in hand and enjoying it in our homes. Who knows 10 years down the line, do you really think anyone is going to give a rat's *** about the cover? ![]() |
