Anyone have any clue about where each of the anime OVAs and movies for LoGH falls in timeline wise? Like for example, LoGH Gaiden takes place prior to LoGH: Overture to a New War, etc.

Golden Wings would the first, chronologically, but it's really an alternate version if anything. Next comes the Gaiden OVAs, and Overture to a New War and My Conquest is the Sea of Stars pretty much take place right before the main OVA.

If you're going to watch it chronically, don't be surprised to see certain pieces of information going right over your head. Personally I would recommend to start with My Conquest is the Sea of Stars, then Overture to a New War and finally the main series.

Bingal is correct if you are committed to watching everything. Unfortunately, the movies are not as good as the series, mostly due to the emphasis on the space battles over the politics. I would begin with the first movie, but if you don't like it, I would skip straight to the series without watching the second.

I'd certainly want to question that, at least to a certain extent.
The series, taken as a whole, is obviously superior. No question about it.
However, I would in fact have to argue that the two movies can be better than the first couple of episodes as an introduction to the material and, if nothing else, they still work as an optional supplement. They're not all space battles either. The second movie, in particular, has a number of character development scenes for some individuals that...don't feature too prominently in the subsequent chain of events. The political angle isn't missing either.
Nevertheless, I'm fully aware of the fact that disagreement about any of this is perfectly possible.

Well I had already watched LoGH Gaiden. So I got the taste of all the politics etc. And so far I've liked the movies better. It's going to take me a few episodes to get used to the animation style of the main OVA. The style reminds me of an old American cartoon series.
Anyways, I just prefer to watch it all chronologically. In this case I think I made the right choice, since going back and watching a movie that's well before parts of the original would just kind of diminish enjoying the overall plot. This way I get to see it all unfold in one go.
So far what I know from you guys and from what I've seen.
It's: Golden Wings, LoGH: Gaiden (or side-stories), Spiral Labryinth, My Conquest is the Sea of Stars, Overture to a New War, and LoGH Main OVA.
