Well...i must say I'm very tempted to get this series...but i do have a few questions on it if anyone can help me. First....is it as good as i have heard recently? Is there any content that would not be great for my little brother....heavy violence, nudity, etc.... and lastly.....does anyone have a hint when the box set(s) may come out....since the series is almost over....i'm tempted to wait for them, but not if it will be many months before animeworks releases it. Thanks

Here's another topic discussing about Twelve Kingdoms, with some information that you might consider useful. However, answering your questions...
I really think is as good as you have heard. I'm not going to say it will result a masterpiece for everyone, the 2002 best anime, or whatever, because those are opinions. But it is a fact that many people has enjoyed, and not those who think "Naruto is da best anime, ya!" or "U like Sailor Moon, right? 'Cos if you don't, gyaaaa ![]() How old is your little brother? There's no sex, neither drugs or nudity. There is some violence, of course, but not much more than warriors fighting with their swords and shields. Some blood, yes, but I personally think everyone older than thirteen can watch it without any problem. Hope it helps ^^ |

The Twelve Kingdoms is a great Anime to watch. It does not have nudity or foul language, rather it has a complex language or terms defining characters instead.
There is no heavy violence or killing in the Twelve Kingdoms, in fact, it feels like the animators are trying to limit the deaths in the show. Or at least decrease the effects of the violence portrayed. |

It's as good as you've heard. I should caution that the series is focused much more heavily on world-building and character development than on action (although there is a fair amount, especially in the early going). Because of this the story moves along at a leisurely pace, so action junkies may be disappointed. Twelve Kingdoms would get a PG-13 rating if released as a movie in the States. There is some blood and graphic violence but not a lot nor is it severe. The series nimbly avoids any issues about sex and only one character who appears midway through the series is anything less than fully-clothed. (The elaborate costuming is one of the greatest delights of the series.) As for a boxed set? I wouldn't expect that until late next year at the earliest, especially since the last volume isn't due out until the end of February. |

ok thanks all...i will definately be getting that anime, for i prefer a heavier focus on the characters and the plot. I think my brother will be fine, my parents were mainly concerned with the nudty/sex and extreme violence. A few more questions on a different animation if you don't mind. the X-parts 1 and 2 are coming out, do you recommend that series? How about the content again, some sites tell me that it does contain nudity and sex and sorts....whereas others say no....and some say yes but nothing is shown, can some one please clarify this? Thanks again

One of the reason I love this series is because it's a fantasy anime with no graphic violence. However, it's true that violence is often implied. For example, beheadings occur a couple of times, but the animation never actually portrays the beheading itself or severed heads (uck!) Because 12 Kingdoms aired on NHK (which I believe is a public television station in Japan), I think the animators went out of their way to tone down the action. Another example is when a band of wolves attack Yoko (the heroine). We see her with a sword in her hands, then the scene cuts away to another location. When the attack scene resumes, the wolves are lying on the ground dead. Presumably Yoko killed them, but the animation never actually shows this. An entire war even occurs 1/4 of the way of the way through the series, but the viewers don't get to see it! (they only see the aftermath of the war).
12 Kingdoms is probably fine for ages 10 and up (maybe younger), although I'm not sure that young boys will actually be interested in it. There is a ton of exposition and fantasy terms that are introduced to the audience early on. I personally think that 12 Kingdoms is one of the most fascinating anime I've seen so far, and the intricate storyline is part of the reason. You should definitely watch it sometime, even if your little brother might get a little confused. Who knows, he might enjoy it anyway. ![]() |

I really like Twelve Kingdoms and I also really liked X the tv show. There's violence in X, but I wouldn't call it excessive. I don't recall any scenes of nudity, but one of the main characters is a prostitute (no scenes of her working though). |

I love 12 Kingdoms-discovered it in Newtype USA which meant I had to see the eps at Comic-Con last year(pretty much when the first dvd was released) & I've been pre-ordering it since. Some time back it was reported they were toying with a special box for it, but I've never seen a box offered.
X is Clamp, with all that it implies. The manga is quite violent with a strong yaoi undercurrent (nothing happens that I know of, but Fuma is all over Kamui, not to mention Seishiro made it plain in Tokyo Babylon he loves Subaru-X picks up that relationship with the obvious strain considering Seishiro killed someone dear to Subaru) & the few eps I've seen support this opinion. I'm waiting for the box on it because Clamp tends not to be animated well for my money. Their manga tends to have a lot of mystery & sub-plots which get dropped in the animated versions. The series seems a bit more coherant than thre movie which suffered from cramming the idea into less than 2 hrs. They are my fav manga artist, so I might notice the changes more. |

One thing about the 12kingdom that's annoying is when main character cry and whine a lot for most of the beginning and is pretty much a useless character that put other people in danger. I hate those story where the main character don't want to accept thier responsiblity and they end up crying (whining) a lot, I mean even after a lot of stuff happen, she still is in deny. It's a good fantasy-based anime but the character were a turn off and some of the magic user can make anything appear out of no where.... I like Record of lodoss war better. Perhaps it gets better after the 4th DVD.

Well, the main characters just acts as how would a normal human act. It would be worst if she just accepts it all at the beggining, right? It takes its time, but finally she knows which is her world and is she really.
It's not like Miaka Yuki, she cries always, always & always. |

???Yoko doesn't cry or whine all that much. She was an outsider-kept up the act of the good girl. (I've read the 2 friends that travel to the 12 Kingdoms with her are original to the anime, added because the anime makers felt the need to explain story points), This point becomes important later when she realizes that she's always done things others want or expect her to do as she struggles to becoming a good queen. This is after she has some trial & error dealing with her new court ministers. I'm not sure this would interest younger viewers. There are many complex ideas presented. Taiki's guardian is topless(don't really see anything, but I know some parents can freak over the smallest things) My daughter cried when a boy only in 4 eps (dvd 7) died & then they replayed it all over several times on dvd 8--she finally left the room. |
