BS. If it was that simple, they would've made it official sooner, and would've probably released it sooner. As I said earlier, when FOX lost the rights, Disney could probably only release the dub-only version of the film on dvd, and had to re-negotiate with Ghibli for the Japanese "master" out on R2.

Actually big companies usually don't explain much unless prodded to do so.

They already have a contract with Ghibli for releasing everything including Totoro. They just could not have released it until the Fox license ran out. In fact they released it in Japan ages ago, unfortunately dub-titled.

I still see alot of Totoro DVD discs in stores so the delay will at least reduce confusion among folks who may pick up the Fox release thinking they are getting the BV one.

I have the fox version and I LOVE it. Disney will probably release it with Howl's Moving Castle in Wave 3 sometime in the next two or more years.

Cowpunk: Yes, but the contract was for LD and vhs versions of
the dub and sub Totoro. Since Princess Mononoke, Disney had to re-negotiate the dvd rights to include the subs.

I say if it is to fix the horrible transfer that Fox had, take as much time as they need, since it deserves better than Fox's horrible transfer.

At least we're getting the Cats return in place of Totoro.
