I've been thinking, since Anime is the best thing to happen to earth since the Color TV, why not have a Day, Week, or Month dedicated to Anime and all its glory. Ya know?
Now what I was thinking was(one of the following):

March 8th: When the oldest know Anime was Discovered to be from 1917.
April 13th: The First Talkie Anime was created
Nov. 3rd: The Date Osamu-sama was borned
Feb. 9th: The day Osamu-sama Died(tragically)
Jan. 23rd: Toei Animation was founded
Oct. 22nd: The First Feature Film Anime

So…if a the American and/or Japanese Government decided to make a day(ect..) dedicated to Anime, what day would you think is the best choice and why? Maybe one of mine or maybe you have some of your own…

[EDIT: Slightly modified your title. -TK]

I could see that happening in Japan but in other countries it's definitely never gonna happen.

Realistically, I think there might be an informal holiday celebrating the first broadcast of Sazae-san. My Japanese instructor told us that this is the longest running animated television show in Japan (or outside the country even) and they are still airing new episodes.

Looking at the show's Wiki, Sazae-san first aired on October, 5th 1969.

Well, there's nothing stopping a group of anime fans, a club, or even an individual celebrating events like the ones you've suggested. Smile

Correction, anime was around before Color TV so it would be more like the greatest thing since... the radio maybe.

Anyways, I think the idea of a celebration of anime is more likely to happen in Japan. But I guess it could be one of those internet founded events where there's no really organization supporting it but it's just something for the fans. I guess if there was an actual holiday for anime it would make sense to put it on March 8th.

Too bad March 8 is already taken for a different holiday. Then again, date selection criteria could be fairly arbitrary.

Oh come on it's even better than that. I think something more accurate would be anime is the best thing to happen to the Earth since The Sun. Yeah Wink

But on deciding a date for anime appreciation day, the OP has the right idea some milestone related to Osamu Tezuka would probably be best. Perhaps the premiere date for Astro Boy (which was probably falls on the same premiere date for lots of shows, idk).
