I don't want to be an alarmist and it could just be a local thing but in both my local Books-A-Million and the Borders in Augusta that I go to for manga on occasion, I've noticed that every copy of the Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase manga is gone.
Combined with the previous news here that volume 13 was "cancelled" this has me a bit concerned for the series. Has Tokyopop completely lost this one? Are the B&M stores sending it back to them because of some sort of financial issue? Also, and this may just be me but it looks like Tokyopop titles are getting very thin on store shelves. Anyone know more about this than I do? What do you think could be the explanation? What do you think would happen to Moon Phase if Tokyopop went under? |

I had volumes 1-10 for the longest time and just started reading them. I got 11 then 12 was delayed for some reason, but I got it. However, I can't tell when 13 is coming out. Anybody know?

Amazon shows September 8 on my pre-order of volume 13. Many other retailers have updated to September 1. Tokyopop is only up to August releases on their website, so it might still change again.

Some of Tokyopop's previously "cancelled" titles have actually been solicited so hope may really exist. It still bothers me that copies of the manga's previous volumes just vanished from store shelves in my area though. (Of the many questions I'd like to ask corporate folks is "what happens to things when they leave the store shelves?")

It depends on the consignment agreement. The best case scenario is that the books are returned for re-distribution or remaindering but with the big chain stores it's more usual that the front cover is detached and returned as proof of non-sale and the rest of the book is pulped (because it's cheaper to destroy them than it is to ship and warehouse them). |

Vol. 13 is up for preorder at RightStuf. Previously, the site didn't even show the volume for sale. Says 'date to be determined,' but it's a hopeful sign that the next volumes are coming soon.
I canceled my Vol. 13 order at Amazon. I got tired of having it in limbo when the series might not continue. I'm waiting until I see a new date or it in stock somewhere before I order it again. |
