thanks for the help bro...

hey but on box office mojo it says that:

Steamboy's performance this past weekend grossed $87,830; which when compared to the fist weeks $139,000 is a lot lower. It was a -35.5% drop in revenue/sales. But on a positive note it looks like 7 more theaters have picked up Steamboy. And now its playing in 46 theaters instead of the original 39 or 37 whatever.

Also, here are more figures: it's averaging about $1,909 per theater screening, for this past weekend. (which I'm a little disappointed about, but its all good)

Steamboys Total Gross over the past 2 weeks has been $287,034 so far according to Box Office Mojo

anyways, Tenchi, thanks for the help. peace Very Happy Smile Smile

Steamboy's not a film most people would want to sit through twice, even if any of them they liked it. At this rate, it could be twice as long before Otomo ever does another anime film. Although international audiences usually bail out bloated American films-see Waterworld-so maybe Steamboy will find more success in Europe.

yeah i understand that GATSU....

anyways, i have another stupid question, but does anyone one know what was the actuals or estimates for total gross earnings for GitS: Innocence, and Appleseed. (please!!!)

I don't really care about the opening weekend earnings. I'm trying to compare and see how much money all 3 movies spent making/producing it and how much they earned in the US.

Appleseed made about $130,000, while Innocence made about $1 million. It should be noted that Appleseed was rated R, while Innocence was PG 13. Although I think Appleseed will probably do better on dvd than Steamboy.

I think that people are forgetting that last weekend was Easter. My family never went to a movie during this holiday. Did all movies see a drop or was it just Steamboy?

Also, I went to see the dub this weekend (I'm in a different state from everybody else now.). It was a good movie.(The closest sub version for me is the next state which is a 2 hour drive and is only shown after 9 PM.)

Yes, i'm sure that the japanese are as crazy when it comes to dubbing as the germans and french, but it's also a bit surprising considering how "popular" english seems to be over there. I mean just watch any random anime and they'll be using english words left and right.

Yeah, but I doubt they would want an entire movie in English unless they are "dub-haters" or something like that. Their use of English is used for sounding cool or hip, saying random phrases. This is similar to how some English-speaking otaku will say random phrases in Japanese to sound cool, but still speak almost everything in English. To use a more mainstream example, a guy who wants to sound sophisticated may toss in a couple of snooty French phrases to impress the girl he is trying to impress, though the other 99% of the time, he speaks English.

With these kind of numbers, I wonder if they'll expand to the 700 theaters like originally promised...

I think that's Howl's Moving Castle that might be getting 700 screens. And that wasn't a promise, that was an unconfirmed estimate from a Japanese newspaper. I think it's a little optimistic, I'm expecting more in the 300 to 400 screen range myself, but we'll see.

I have never heard anything "official" about Steamboy getting 700 screens; maybe some uninformed, low-level Sony representative said it might be getting a wider (not wide) release at someplace like the Toronto International Film Festival (the same kind of thing happened with the Cowboy Bebop film, which got even fewer screens than Steamboy in the end), but I think cases like that, the blame lies with the representative for giving an answer before the studio even made any kind of release plan.

Looks like it's pretty much over for Steamboy. Oh well, you had a nice run, and maybe the mostly positive WOM will help you on dvd and at the Oscars. You even beat Innocence at Rotten Tomatoes.

about about people not going because 14 minutes is missing, let me ask you this: how often do you get a chance to see an anime movie in a movie theatre? bunch of closed minded cheapos, thats what you are. thats the reason this movie did poorly.

I believe it was cut to appeal to American Audiences. That was the excuse i heard.

Closed minded?? Whats closed minded is the American Entertainment Industry. all they worry about is money, and making more money. Screw artistic integrity right?? Hell if i was the director of the film i wouldnt have even let that shit come to the US if any of it was cut. Frankly i wouldnt have even made a dubbed version. The fact is majority of American (not including those familar with Anime and its culture) is retarded and would never understand anything unless you spoke to them r e a l s l o w . I say wait for it on dvd. I'm happy that more anime is coming to the states theatrically but it pisses me off when Americans start screwing with shit that they are not supposed to...hey that kinda reminds me of something...
