You do note the inherent contradiction in that, don't you? I italicized it for you, if you missed it.

No I don't see a contradiction, because there is no contradiction.

When I was talking about the good and bad parts, I was referring to the dub. It follows on from what I was saying, that the trailer should have glossed over weak dub performances by highlighting the stronger ones. And since I'm assuming that's what they did (because whoever made the trailer is a - ahem - professional), then I've got to wonder what the weak performances are like.

That assumption is far from a sure thing. You don't know if this was a professional trailer-maker who knows how to make sound bites sing. You don't know how much of the material he had access to. You don't know how much time he had to put it together, or how much direction he was given. For all we know, the job was delegated to some unlucky intern who was told to slap together something before lunchtime, hit a few key bullet points, and avoid major spoilers. The only thing you can prove from the trailer is that the trailer is bad.

And we're right back to that point- you're judging the quality of the series on the basis of a five-minute trailer, the equivalent of saying The Turn of the Screw must be a crock of dung because the dust jacket blurb is dull and incoherent. This is the third time I've brought it up, and you keep avoiding addressing it despite the fact that it shoots a gaping flaw in everything you're saying. Do you think I haven't been around the internet enough to know what that means? It means you can't address it. It means it's the truth. You have to ignore it because acknowledging it means you were wrong. And like every damned elitist fanboy on the web, you're too proud, too bullheaded, and too self-absorbed to admit that you were wrong.

I'll leave it at that for now, because this is just making me mad. But address the point, or shut up.

I'll be interested to see more of the dub but either way I'll be watching it subbed when it comes out unless I hear something amazing about the English dub, which seems very unlikely.

I hope Sci-Fi gets a nice crowd for this one, or the DVD sales go really well, because I think this is exactly the sort of series that could capture a large fanbase by airing on TV. Then again this is Sci-Fi we're talking about and an English dub that sounds destined for hell but people who haven't heard the Japanese dub or just don't care may just turn this into the next G Gundam / Gundam Wing.

Yes, please do leave it at that. The more you rant at me for judging a dub based on a trailer which is in English, and the more you ignore the fact that I have already answered your question, the more you look like an idiot and a troll. Oops, did I say "look like"? I meant that you become more of an idiot and more of a troll with every post.

Jeez.

This whole thread so far is deja vu all over again. The Code Geass thread that I made went the exact same way when I posted a trailer.

I'm not that familiar with most of the voice actors in this series, but I think that this trailer might be using fake voices. When the Death Note trailers first came out, they used some voice actors for lead roles (like Light) who weren't in the final dub at all. And if you haven't noticed both Death Note and Gundam 00 are both from the same recording studio, so maybe there's some correlation here.

Unless someone can confirm that the people in the trailer are the ones on the official cast list. Laughing

braves, yes, it's the same group as Death Note, the Ocean Group. Specifically, the Ocean studios branch proper. They've been dubbing Gundam programs for a long while, though, as far back as Gundam Wing. And judging by Setsuna's voice in the trailer clearly being Brad Swaile (who seems to be phoning it in), I would say it's certainly the genuine article.

...so much for that theory.

Well, judging from the trailer in my first post and this one, the dub certainly seems underwhemling by today's standards, but I'll refrain from commenting further until it airs on Monday.

Still sounds passable to me, although that plot background seems almost ridiculously cheesy. Very Happy

Let's try and keep it civil. Disagree all you want, but do so respectfully. There's simply no need to call someone an idiot.

Interesting that you didn't mention troll. But duly noted.

@Braves: Wow, now that's a much better trailer. It is amazing how much better it is if you take out Patrick and Graham. I don't like how it ends, but it is still much better in terms of structure. Anyone who is new to Gundam and watches that trailer first will be far more likely to want to watch it than the same person watching the other trailer first.

That said, a lot of the voices I still don't like, and Aoelia's voice is uncomfortably young for someone who is used to the original. And it is a pity we didn't get to see more of Ali. Also, just because we didn't hear Graham and Patrick in the trailer doesn't mean they won't appear in the show, unfortunately.

But hey, an improvement is an improvement, and I for one am thankful for it.

Edit: Typo.

I'm sorry, dude, but that's exactly what he IS. It grinds my gears when people see five minutes or so of a show and then decide that this gives them the authority to say it's a turd, and it seriously grinds my gears when that supposed authority becomes yet ANOTHER attempt to become big man on the board by restarting the dub/sub wars. And it REALLY grinds my gears when I take the time to explain how wrong they are, and they COMPLETELY IGNORE me. I suppose I would be better off abandoning fools to their own devices, but somehow I can't shake the feeling that I could somehow make them see reason.

Just a heads-up for anybody who missed the news, but it'll be airing tonight. I didn't know that the director for FMA also directed this one. Now I have slightly higher expectations for this show. Wink

Well, that was fairly horrifying. Practically every character cast seemed either five years older or younger than they were supposed to be. I suppose we should count our blessings that they managed to at least get characters' genders right.
