While browsing the manga options on amazon I noticed that the Eva mangas are being rereleased.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1591164001/qid=1080009284/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3/103-1337092-2978262 When I went to Viz's website however, I couldn't find any information on it. I know that Eva has been released in both flipped and unflipped formates, but what format is this in? |

The new ones, I beleive, are in the original format.
If you check the News and New Releases or whatever it's called, and check out this month or the next, you see they have it listed. I still havn't seen the new first or 8th volume yet. |

Ok. I know Excel Saga is unflipped and Inuyasha is flipped. And judging from the black lines at the top and bottom of the cover, the Eva manga is unflipped. So, w00t! if it is. |

Amazon.com claims that it hasn't been released yet and amazon.ca claims that it ships in 6-9 weeks (ie they don't have it now, but will sometime soon). It does in fact appear to be unflipped, so I think I'll be picking up the new ones! As for volume 8, both .ca and .com say that it's not yet released. |

Well, in the March NewType USA, in the manga listings, it had the new evangelion volume 8 (I think it was the new one) but no volume 1 O_o And supposedly they come out at the same time.
I would have expected SOME bookstores to have it early though. Why are the bad ones always on shelves early v_v |

I just picked up vols. 1 & 8...
Nice new design (cover and throughout inside) nice extra editorial features. As expected, the color pages are no more (*sob*) They are unflopped and untranslated FX... I wish I wasn't the only seeming person in the world who doesn't like it this way. Especially for something like Excel Saga - half the jokes are timed with the FX, and flipping to the back for the translation to every panel is irritating. Personally, I'm PAYING for the translation and retouch... So this feels like getting "half a sandwich" for full price. --- Sam. |

Putting the SFX translation either right under the original in small text, or under the panel in small text seems like it would be a good solution.
But at least they're unflipped. Now if I could just get confirmation on a release date so I don't have to go hunting all over town.

That would be a reasonable solution. Now get to it Viz/TOkyopop/ETC!!!
For which ones? #1 shipped three weeks ago, #8 last week, expect #2 in a week or two, etc... --- Sam. |

yeah and it was AMAZING - gets to the stuff in the "director's cut" episodes 21/22... (ie the pre-second impact flashbacks) And offers a tantalizingly different "angle" of Kaji getting... "you know what"... --- Sam. |

I went to the bookstore and saw the new volume 1 of Eva, and they didn't use the Rei cover that is on the bookstore sites
 It is the same cover as the regular and special editions from before. It's ugly >< Now, I don't think I will buy it if it is exactly the same. Didn't see volume 8 yet.
