Well, I bought the School Rumble OVA sight unseen. I love the series, so I probably will find something I like about it. It's gotten to the point where I like the characters so much, I don't care what they're doing.
Beck is awesome...I really need to finish watching it. Those are some nice, quaint little shelves there. |

First "Perishable" in a while, I think.
Assuming a production deserves it, a negative review can be more entertaining than a positive one. |

A bottle full of plastic beads? A giant lollipop? A tube of glow sticks? A Nintendo DS lite?
There is much foul sorcery to be found on this week's shelf. Perhaps even more than that Sasami show contains. |

I think you were a little harsh with magic users club. Although I was only able to see the frst 3 episodes when they premiered at Anime Next, I found them cute, and amusing. No Jack Daniels necessary! I don't rate this an "A" Anime but I am looking forward to seeing the rest.

Yes! I would love to have the Beck Complete Series! Now if only Best Buy would have it in the stores!! However, if it is not there this weekend, I'm ordering it.

For your information, Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club does have a good plot. It just hardly appears in the first season, but it gets a major role in the second season.

Miss Bamboo, we've had this discussion before...
Regardless of quality, the latest attempt to milk a dime off of Sasami's quality is a must-have because we're trying to get Kajishima to finish Saint Knight's Tale AND get to work on OAV4. Please? It's worth it right? |

Just by looking at the title and box art, I can automatically tell Sammy: Pretty Girl is going to be a run of the mill magical girl shojo show.
Not to mention the moe factor, which is primarly the reason I completely agree with Bamboo. As for School Rumble, I once found this series humorous, but the humor became more interesting than funny. As for Beck, despite the fact I haven't seen this series, at least this series is better than the moe infested Sammy show. Excellent article Bamboo, please be careful while swmming, sharks are dangerous. |

I'll get this out of the way first and reference my own review of the DVD (I did not watch this in English). Yeah, the first series is all about the characters.
*LOL* Well, I'm not sure how much Kajishima-sensei will be influenced by this spinoff (the show did do pretty well in Japan from what I'm told...for what that's worth). I'm hoping for some Saint Knight's Tale news soon, but it may not come until December. As to another TM!R OVA series, we'll see if K-sensei is up for that or not.
The first Sasami series doesn't feel like a typical mahou shoujo show at all, which surprised me greatly. There are no villains to fight or some dastardly plot to take over the universe or anything like that. There are certain mahou shoujo elements to be sure because there has to be in order for the show to be called mahou shoujo. But to be honest, watching the Japanese version, the series is cute but also there's a lot of fun, funny (more so because the Japanese version has real children doing the voices of the various girls), and some touching too. Basically, the first series is all about characters and not plot. There is some table setting for a plot and maybe that will become more like a mahou shoujo series. At the moment, I think the production team did a pretty good job of keeping some things (and dropping others, like the annoying henshin sequences) to make it mahou shoujo, but without being just another copy-cat mahou shoujo title. At least, that's my opinion of it and that could change after I see the second series. |
