This is so ridiculous. If it was posted all over the place I can understand but contained to one site doesn't really cause any harm. People have to go out of their way to find the site and read the spoilers. If people want that, there's no real issue. This isn't even a leak. The content was already out so it's just writing down what someone with photogenic memory has in their head after viewing the movies and such. This isn't like posting actual movies

Unless they were distributing copies of the film along with the transcription that's kinda bullshit.

Quote: | CODA stated that as a result of the police investigation, it was discovered that the company's management and employees colluded to systematically commit copyright infringement and operate the website for profit, with the large number of hits it gains. |
I think this is what ultimately makes it problematic because they're essentially regurgitating copyrighted content for profit. I can't say that the result wouldn't have been the same had they not monetized the operation, but blatantly profiting from it does make it a lot worse.

Unless they were posting the scripts from these productions line-by-line, I don't see the point of going after small fry spoiler sites when Wikipedia pages for films and movies usually have the exact same spoilers, either in the "Plot" section for movies or the "List of Episodes" for series.

I mean, sure, I can sort of get that, but----
Quote: | "CODA added that the problem with these "spoiler sites" is that they reduce people's eagerness to pay a fair price for the content, which can lead to people not watching the full movie, causing great damage to the rights holders. " |
This is how they are justifying that. This is *wild*. Can you imagine if these companies start cracking down on people sharing spoilers, which, lets be honest, will happen in any discussion about media or even summaries/reviews? Damn.

Y'all are acting like they got arrested for posting summaries of movies/anime online, but... that certainly isn't what the case seems like to me. The article, at least, seems to indicate that they were transcribing the *entire* scripts, and then selling access to those scripts for a profit. That would be a pretty clear case of copyright infringement, regardless of how they obtained the material.
Though I'd certainly question just how many people would be willing to read through a full script rather than just spend that time/money watching the media itself, let alone pay for the privilege. It's hard to imagine it'd represent a statistically significant figure, and certainly seems a weird thing to go after when camrips and webrips are still so ubiquitous.[/i]

From the article:
Quote: | the arrested men transcribed detailed content — including the entire story, character names, lines and actions, scenes, and developments — |
It sounds like posting the entire movie is what they are doing. This is not quoting a short passage or listing brief summaries.

I find it weird that some people are trying to defend what they did, as if it's of no consequence. The main point is they stole something to make a profit, something they had no right to do. Is this world so jaded that you can shrug your shoulders and say it's not a big deal. That's a slippery slope to go down.
