Kodomo No Jikan is probably mine, not in the sense of "guilty" that it's poorly-written because that's the total opposite.

It's more like "that series you don't want to broadcast how much you like because of its extremely controversial themes." My parents will never be informed that I like this and neither will the members of my church. Anime hyper

I used to like Marmalade Boy as a teenager but now thinking back to it, the characters make me want to throw things at the screen. Twisted Evil Miki's an insufferable heroine; she's almost as bad as Miaka. Almost. Not quite as stupid but just as needy.

Comic Party would be mine. I own the big artbox box set and have the full print release of the various manga titles. I love all the stupid Leaf cross-promotion with To Heart and the characters all have their quirks that make them enjoyable for me. Taishi is easily the best though, with his seemingly random outbursts and motivational speeches he gives when Kazuki experiences failure. It's not a particularly good show by any merit, and I can easily understand why it never experienced much of any fan appreciation in the West, but it's just so goofy, silly and light-hearted that I just can't not love it.

Oh, but Revolution was crap. Didn't care for that at all.

I also love Comic Party....but I love everything that has to do with making anime or manga.

Not sure how Revolution went so wrong....but I didn't enjoy it either. lol

I love regurgitated anime on Youtube! Razz Laughing I'm talking AMVs, MEPs, Abridged Series, parodies, etc, etc, etc.

As for actual anime, there are so many good, critically acclaimed series on my backlog, and so much junk on my watchlist--well, maybe not that much junk, but I'm still watching Trickster this season and I can't quite figure out why.

I genuinely enjoyed Dance with Devils with its chorus of evil corgis, Psycho-Pass 2 and its villainous Momma's boy, and Mayoiga, with its genuine nod to the psychological concept of Radical Acceptance (it was *not* a comedy!)

School Rumble is good, no need to feel shame about liking it. It was one of the first anime I saw that drew me into anime in the first place.

Yeah, School Rumble is one of my favourite comedy shows of all time. I always perceived it as a fairly beloved show.

I unabashedly love School Days. I think it makes a very powerful statement about the harem genre. Laughing But while I can be pretty critical about anime, I tend to give a ton of extra points to shows that are entertaining in spite of poor production values.

On that note, my actual guilty pleasure is probably Gravitation. I remember even thinking it had pretty bad animation at the time, but I recently had the pleasure of marathoning it on my 50 in LCD. There are stills that aren't finished at the bottom (since CRT overscan would have cut it off back in the day), and the majority of the "animation" consists of still frames with moving mouths. You're thinking, "that's typical of anime, though" - but this is different. They look very... pasted on, somehow. And of course the jokes are "lols soooo random ~^-^~", the story is so condensed from the manga that the character motivations make zero sense... so why does it make me laugh and cry every time!? Eri, you kick their asses for what they did to your Shuuichi! Crying or Very sad (There may have been wine involved in the aformentioned marathon)
The music is legitimately good, though.

If I'm being completely honest, I'm also just a sucker for sappy romance, and Twin Star Exorcists has it in spades. Over the course of my many reviews for the series, the one constant joy that the show has provided is in watching its protagonists, Rokuro and Benio, grow up together, and eventually grow to love each other. The initial premise had a lot of potential to be off-putting, what with the two of them being destined as teenagers to eventually marry and sire the savior of all Exorcists; in spite of that, though, the two form a bond that is not only sweet, but earned. Over the course of the last year these two have shared their trials and tribulations together, and they've supported one another through everything, be it the mundane worries of sharing a home together or the more pressing issue of saving the world from evil demonic forces. I've found many romances in this medium to feel somewhat trite, often even artificial, so to encounter a relationship that feels so unexpectedly real has been a genuine treat.

The director of the series said in an interview that he would try to not neglect the chemistry of the two leads, so despite the low points of the series, and the non-canon elements, at least that has been handling that decently.

I wouldn't consider it a bad show at all, either. I'm just recognizing that it has a lot problems that understandably turn other people off of the series, especially big fans of the manga.

Many of Sousei no Onmyouji fillings were made by the original author.
Kinako is canon in the manga.
The times that the quality of animation decreased, it was because the animation was done by a subsidiary study.

Men, where are the sources of this things? I want to know and show others in case that it´s true. Not that I don´t believe you, it´s for confirmation.

And also, while the manga it´s god, it´s not like the anime is making so bad decisions with its non canon stories right know. Here are the good and bad points I point out for manga fans:

The Good:
-At least there´s character development, even if it´s not much.
-The rest of the Heavnly Guardians were introduced. Zeze and Sakura got the most development, but for me the highlight was Tenma. He is OP as heck even in manga form.
-This latest chapter didn´t forget the romance side of the story.
-Even as not great of a role, Sae tied in with the part that our protagonists had to learn how to breed a child
-These arcs still stick with the core mythology of the franchise
-Some manga parts are reworked for these arcs, and they fit. Yes you read that right, they fit in the franchise

The Bad:
-Pierrot doesn´t use the material for what should be epic moments. Instead you´re left with a sense of average action
-The core plot is obviously poorly planned. By now it feels like a Power Rangers overarching plot.
-The villains in the manga that are not Kegare, apart from Yuto, are one dimensional. Hijirimaru and the other guy have little to no development, and the Basaras´ plan by now is the typical "destroying the world" plot, by absorbing exorcist powers. But they were more menacing and terrifying than the original villains right now. Probably because the writers stuck with the one dimensional villain shtick, but they´re so typical.
-The emotional moments are overwritten. There´s little to no build up and the payoff is... souless to say the least.

I think my own personal guilty pleasure is Episode 8 of Nisemonogatari. I shouldn't enjoy this horny episode as much as I always do. Laughing

Even though it isn't a terrible series by any means, at least in my opinion, my guilty pleasure anime is, ironically, Guilty Crown. The beautiful animation and some genuinely great story beats out the uneven story telling, poor character development, unlikable main character, nonsensical love story, and the haphazard ending. I also found the major characters to be at least memorable, with some of them I grew to really like (even though their relationship with one and another is really forced). This is just my feelings for the show, and I know why people say the series is bad, but I just can't help look back on the show very fondly.

Stole the words right off my mouth.

Guild Crown get's a lot of undeserved sh** tbh.... that said my second guilty pleasure is Air Gear, both the anime and the manga. Both mediums start pretty good but delve into a convoluted mess of philosophy thingys that lead to nothing. That said, i can't help loving it (to the point i got all the volumes for the manga), to there's that.

My guilty pleasure would definitely be Future Diary. If forced to look at it with a critical eye it probably wouldn't get a grade higher than a 5/10 from me due to it's glaring, numerous flaws and yet I was still endlessly entertained with each episode.

As for more recent stuff there's Kiznaiver and both seasons of Rewrite.

People are going to think I'm insane. But mine is First Love Monster.

It's a horrendous anime that requires you to swallow all sense of pride and rationality if you want to sit through all 12 episodes. It fet like riding a train that was moving on broken wheels and set on fire, and every episode the train's condition was getting worse as it slowly reaches the finish line, where it then jumped off the rails and into the pits of hell.

Because not only is there a 15 year old girl who's in a awkward relationship with a 10-year old boy who looks like a stereotypical bishounen. Not only are there two more 10-year olds and his 11 year old cousin with the exact same problem.

There's also a housemate who is in a decent relationship but is only sexually attracted to young boys, the really creepy and 110% douche of a housemate who tried to rape the main girl but unfortunately is the one of the few characters with a semblance of sense, the yandere housemate who steals the landlord's underwear so she can inhale their scent like a drug, and the main girl's 20-Ish older brother who collects everything she touches (including the water she bathes in) and gets sexually aroused thinking about said objects.

Oh, and spoiler[the two main leads- who, I must repeat, are a 15 year old girl and a 10 year old boy- are engaged by the end of the anime. And yes, they treat it like a real engagement.]

It was so bad. And the last episode was one of the biggest "Screw you"s I've seen. And it was all so much FUN. I looked forward to every episode, wondering if it can somehow one-up itself in its own absurdity. And it does. The needles drama, the weird fantasy segments, the fact that like 3 other guys are in love with the main girl even though she does nothing to warrant their affection and she chooses a 10-year old over them.

I'm not sure if the manga is different or if it continues where the anime left off. And I don't care. I'm happy with what I saw and will gleefully ride the train again. And I'll be taking others with me >: D

If we're admitting guilt, can I just go straight for the porn option? Because I gotta say, Maple Colors is maybe the only hentai I've ever seen that I could actually call charming. There's a plot of some importance (which isn't actually unusual for hentai) involving a delinquent MC who transfers to the worst class in a high school that's terrorized by an oppressive and evil student council. Through some contrivance out of an 80's US teen sex comedy, the only way for the entire class to avoid expulsion is to put on a play, which the MC works on alongside the girl who's sort of the de facto leader of the class.

Of course, much sex is had, on flimsy pretenses, but it's all consensual (sometimes initiated by the girls rather than the MC), and it's all fairly novel for the genre. Moreover, I found I actually started to care whether horndog MC and the class rep were ever going to finish their play, defeat the student council, and of course totally do it. Alas, the two OVAs don't actually finish the story, so I guess you have to go to the source visual novel for that. But, honestly, I wish there were more of this series, which I'm sure is something I've never said about hentai before or since.

I have to agree with School Rumble. It was probably the first anime I truly fell in love with. I haven't watched it in years, so maybe it hasn't held up, but I remember waking up early to run downstairs and watch it on the living room TV. Kenji Harima was my idol as a kid.

Assuming it is permitted here on the basis of its decidedly low-brow appeal, I might note that Project A-ko remains a notable source of merriment. Its relish for absurdity and fanciful commotion is complemented by exemplary production values—most notably its soundtrack—and enough well-humoured moments to forgive its shamelessness.

Since my efforts to examine the question in a rigorous manner have been fruitless, I'll try off the top of my head.

In the most straightforward sense of guilty pleasure, while there are any number of harem/fanservice series I could mention, I'll go with Infinite Stratos, both seasons. What can I say? I liked the girls, in particular Char and Tatenashi. Ichika is definitely one of the densest harem leads and there are other issues but I liked it nonetheless. It could also be filed under series one likes but everyone hates.

But I have a better example for that, though I'm hesitant to mention it for multiple reasons, namely Cross Ange. After an understandably controversial first episode (and maybe a few more) it actually becomes a good mecha show and develops the female lead well (by the end). I certainly don't begrudge anyone who saw the first episode and found it unconscionable, nor do I not understand or seek to minimize the reasons they found it so. It does have issues beyond that but I thought in the end it was a good show. Considering how it has gone before, I apologize in advance for bringing it up.

On the examples offered by the reviewers, I think some were a bit too good to be considered such. Even beyond the argument that one shouldn't be guilty about something you like generally, in particular for TWGOK and Saekano (and while I haven't seen it School Rumble is relatively well rated), they're good shows so why feel guilty? This I why I wanted to examine it rigorously. For Saekano, it seemed the issue was of expectations and not execution per se so that is on the viewer not the show.

With regard to Demi-chan, was this article written before the latest episode? Because the fourth episode returns to the strengths of the first episode and especially in the first part is definitely not safe syrupy harem fare. Why the haste to lose faith in that show?

Lol I couldn't get through two episodes of First Love Monster (humor was way too crude and the side characters were way too annoying) but I know quite a lot of other girls liked it.
