Same with Naruto. Both shows are showing no signs of ending. I can't stand seeing the reviews on the front page, so I have to change websites whenever I see reviews of the two shows. Please stop reviewing them already. |

Gintama has a big and growing fanbase internationally, since slowly people are finally beginning to realise that it is one of the greatest shonen series out there. The series is entering its final arc in the manga this year, and if you knew the author's writing style and personality at all, which you don't, you'd know he's not the type to make things drag out for the sake of it and knows when its time to end.
Don't even compare Gintama to Naruto, which is nothing but filler whereas Gintama has less than 10 filler episodes throughout the entire 310 episodes and has one of the best manga to anime adaptions I've seen. Also the material in the manga towards the end of the Naruto Shippuden series was weak anyway, so it still wouldn't compare to Gintama even if they adapted the canon correctly.
Put your hate somewhere else cause no one gives a shit about your opinion.

Shounen is one of if not the most popular genres of anime in the West, so I fail to see any works in the genre as very niche. Shounen do take a long time, but that is one of the appeals of it, though it is a downside for latecomers. Also, I see you failed to mention One Piece, the only one of the three that shows no sign of ending and is almost as long as the two you mentioned combined and is one of the shows that is reviewed on this site. I actually agree that Shippuden probably should be dropped sooner or later if it keeps up the filler, but I, and likely we, vehemently disagree that Gintama should be dropped from coverage. You're not going to find a nice audience for such opinions here.

For starters, I didn't compare Gintama to Naruto. I only mentioned them both being shonen that shouldn't be reviewed anymore. I fail to see how Gintama can get reviewed and not Fairy Tail, which has a bigger following.
I like the Naruto manga, but not the anime. It is filled with an endless supply of filler, even during an arc like the Shinobi War which should have never had filler in the first place. Drop it right now for goodness sake, ANN.
As for One Piece, at least it's not on filler. Dragging things out is horrible, but I can tolerate it. With Gintama, while it may not be filler, it's still boring.

Ahahaha Zurako and the morning after pill. 4th wall too strong. I half expected, with that trajectory, for it to miss his mouth.

Do you have any corroborating data or is this just a "gut feeling" type of thing?

If this is your genuine opinion, I don't think anyone will begrudge you for it. However, when you condemned Gintama simply for being "shonen" in your initial post, it gave off the impression that you weren't really familiar with the series.

I'm not into comedy, so the only good bits of Gintama are the serious ones. It has gotten to a point where I don't like to come to this site if the description to each episode is usually talking about comedic moments in the series. In Natuto's case, most of the time the description is referring to filler. Whenever the description does not mention these things for either show, then I can tolerate it and I won't change websites. Yes, I am very picky, but everyone has their own tastes and I have mine.

I mean, Gintama is literally in its endgame right now (The manga is probably in its final arc, and its the next arc after the anime's current one) so I find it hilarious how you talk about it going on forever.
Also, I'm glad we get Gintama rather than Fairy Tail on the grounds that Gintama isn't a shitty series with awful writing. Plus don't the review lists get decided each season based on vote of the ANN userbase?

On Fairy Tail's lack of coverage, it's probably because they don't have someone up on all the episodes. We'll see when or if they find someone for that.
As to its quality, on MAL it has an 8.3 rating, which is by any reasonable standard at least good, and more than Naruto and Bleach and a little less than One Piece. So at least by Shounen standards, I don't believe it qualifies as excrement. You're free to have your own opinion
On Naruto's continued coverage, sorry we keep voting for it. I mean that sincerely. Personally I want to see how Itachi Shinden turns out. If it is not too bad, I'll probably vote for it, at the very least to keep the seat warm for whenever the filler ends. If it is just as shitty as the current filler, it's gonesville for my vote, and maybe watching it until the filler ends.

I'm confused - is there something about merely seeing the words "Gintama - Episode 3XX" or "Naruto - Episode 4XX" that compels you to continue reading the rest of the blurb on the front page instead of skipping past it to more interesting things? I accept that somehow reading said blurbs is so distasteful to you that you can no longer remain on the website in its entirety, but why then do you just not read them?
What happens if you link straight into the forum and then click on the blue menu bar to drop down sections to visit that won't disgust you so? Or view the front page as a text only compact list instead of the grid view (those are options on the review homepage too)? There are ways to avoid seeing the reviews you might want to explore, because I honestly don't think ANN is going to stop reviewing those two series on your say-so or from fear of you going to another website.

Episode 310
This was really great stuff, especially the conversation between Hijikata and Gintoki. And it was really nice to see Katsura being fairly competent. Despite the serious overall tone, I did love the dying messages everyone left.
So has Gintoki been to this prison island before or am I confusing it with Avatar (animated) or Laughing Under the Clouds? I know he's done some (brief) time, but can't remember if one of those was here or not.

People don't listen to him/her. Obviously a troll or just a tad ignorant. It's clogging up the thread with all this bickering.
Great episode once again. This arc's anime adaptation is really living up to my expectations. BNP, you are doing an awesome job

Everyone has an opinion and I have mine. I'll admit that I haven't kept tabs on the recent Gintama arcs so I had no idea it was ending. Thank you guys for letting me know and I think I can let the show slide by now without distaste.
As for Naruto, I really hope the filler ends soon. I love the manga, but the anime isn't doing it justice. Hopefully after the Itachi arc we can go back to legit manga because they are delaying some of the best fighting scenes in the show with Madara, Kaguya, and Sasuke.

Gintoki's prison was in Edo, but Zura did some time in Kokujo a while back. Oddly, they both became acquainted with Shachi, who's serving a life sentence, during their respective incarcerations, meaning he was apparently moved to a less secure prison between stories.

I agree with you about Naruto.
Why not Fairy Tail? I don't watch the show because I heard it was just a watered down version of One Piece (which I love) with nothing but fanservice. I think its obvious why they're reviewing Gintama and not Fairy Tail? Big difference in quality maybe? I can't say for sure because I haven't seen it.
You say you're not a fan of comedy, and call Gintama boring. Just because a show isn't your cup of tea, it doesn't make it bad. There are people like me who love comedy, sarcasm, and satire who find Gintama extremely entertaining. There are also many other aspects of Gintama that make it unique and great entertainment. You can't call a series bad only based on your own preferences. Only people who truly understand something can properly criticise it, otherwise its just a biased opinion. You can't be a wine critic if you don't like wine. I can write a discussion pointing out things in Gintama I find to be weak or in poor taste if I wanted, I'm not scared to take a step back and criticise something I love. But that discussion would be very short in comparison to most other anime series I've seen. That's what makes me believe Gintama is a quality series.

Calling it a water down version of One Piece seems like an oversimplification. Certainly they both feature groups of rowdies going on adventures, collateral damage be damned. Other than that and their being in the same genre, I can't really see it as a watered down version of One Piece, which btw I'm in the process of catching up on. Yes, Fairy Tail has more fan service than say One Piece or Naruto, it is hardly nothing but fanservice. Rating wise, on MAL it is between Naruto and Bleach's just under 8 and One Piece's 8.6 something at 8.3, so while it certainly is significantly less than Gintama and Hunter x Hunter (2011) that is more due to the goodness of those two than Fairy Tail's poorness. You certainly don't have to watch it and I applaud you restraint in not just calling it shit without watching it, but I say one should trust your own eyes first and foremost. I encourage you to watch it and see for yourself.
As this is getting OT, let's let this be the last post on Fairy Tail. Ok?
