Quote: | I think it exists because creator Yukio Futatsugi wanted to make another Panzer Dragoon and couldn't get the rights from Sega, not because someone saw an opportunity to pump a decent idea for every cent. |
I'm not even sure why Sega bothers to cling to Panzer Dragoon's license anymore. A new entry by name could help revive the series, but they just want to put everything as cameos in Sonic games or whatever.
Conception II: While bizarre in concept (and obviously offensive in some inexplicable way to prude parents #345 and #346), the idea of passing down traits to the next generation is always a neat feature in RPGs. From as early as Romancing SaGa 2 to as recent as the Agarest War series, having the option to pass down abilities and traits to your characters' children is a great option and allows for fun customization.
Persona 4 Vol. 2: Since Persona 3 has already been milked to high cash cow heaven, it's time to do the same to Persona 4 obviously. But of course it's not going to stop people from saying, "Where's Persona 5 already, Atlus?!"
Quote: | Or perhaps, as the Teddie pictures imply, the new game is just a Persona pachislot machine. |
Dear lord I hope not. Pachislot equates to "no one other than Japan will care".
Tales' Hideo Baba: It's always cool hearing from Baba about the Tales series and his visions for it. Baba mentioned at New York Comic Con that there was a new Tales in the works for the PS4. Anyone have any word on that?
Quote: | In previous eras, the gimmicks and puzzles were one of the most important features in the dungeons. But recently we've seen that some users cannot clear the puzzles, and they give up going through the dungeons. So mainly we focused on the atmosphere of the dungeons, and we put some not-so-gimmicky puzzles in the dungeons. |
Previously Graces f had some tricky and, according to some people, terribly designed puzzles that made dungeons like the Sandshroud Ruins no fun at all to solve. Instead, many people had to rely on video solutions to get through the frustration of arranging colored circuits (by all logic, I do agree that the SR circuit puzzles were very frustrating since the whole thing resets if you make just one mistake, and you have to walk around the entire room to set everything up correctly again). It's funny though. Now there's whining about how the puzzles in Xillia were no fun to "solve" and are insultingly easy. Why can't these folks make up their blasted minds?
Ys: Memories of Celceta: Stop tempting me to get a Vita, Falcom! I love the Ys series, but I don't have the money to blow on a new handheld. Argh, curses!

dang it Baba-San, let us have Tales of Innocent R and Tales of Hearts R on the Vita in english already!!
And with the sequal to Persona 4. The only thing that needs a sequal is P4 Arena. Which it probably is. But this being the Home Console version instead of the Arcade version.

Just started to get back into Tales of Xillia and the game is a blast to play. Really enjoyable characters, and I am finally getting a hand on the battle system. I am going to buy Tales of Symphonia HD because I had only previously played Tales of Phantasia back when I first started to get into JRPGs.

I've been trying to figure out SEGA for years, and that's as someone who's been a fan of their games since the SEGA Saturn days.
SEGA arguably hit its creative peak in the mid to late 1990s and the company just utterly collapsed after the failure of the SEGA Dreamcast which has since been recognized for being a great technical achievement in spite of its commercial failure as a home console. The Dreamcast in another reality would have been a success and should have led the way for future console development; it was cleanly designed, used off-the-shelf regular PC equipment efficiently, and could be upgraded relatively cheaply by "scaling the hardware." That's an awful lot (in general principle) like what eventually happened in the designing of both the PS4 and XBox One after companies finally realized that designing consoles like the Saturn, PS2, and PS3 was not encouraging or helpful to developers; these console design practices were a nice way to lose money, discourage software development for consoles, and destroy potential profit! The Dreamcast technology actually DID live on a number of years in the arcade as Naomi and Naomi II. The Dreamcast console itself was manufactured up until 2007.
The problem is that whatever creative sparks and direction SEGA had in the past, it's just utterly gone. There's no direction from the top and SEGA's living on the vapors of the past. The biggest SEGA releases most people hear about are the bi-yearly releases of Sonic the Hedgehog compilations and maybe an occasional Virtua Sports title but otherwise you never see vigorous attempts to revive franchises like Panzer Dragoon, NiGHTs, or the great racing games that most people enjoyed (Daytona USA, Virtua Racing, etc.).
At the beginning of the original XBox's life, there was an attempt to revive several SEGA franchises but that was arguably the wrong machine to do this one. Had there been more SEGA PS2 ports outside of Japan and a greater push on the Gamecube (outside of "kid-friendly" characters like Sonic), something might have geled and led to lasting revivals of titles.
Outside of Asia, next to no one cares about Virtua Fighter! I'd argue there are more fans of Lupin III than there are VF players in the US! The VF fighting series is a dead issue here... it's just too technical, too involved, too foreign to most gamers.
Backtracking on myself a bit ---
I will admit it's been great to see ports of the Model 2 games appear on PSN and XBL. VF2, Fighting Vipers, Daytona USA, and Virtual-On (Japan-only, unfortunately!) are finally available in arguably arcade-perfect ports even if they're based on nearly 20-year-old PC code ports of the arcade games! It took far too long for these games to get re-released but I can't argue with the pricing and final port results.
I just wish more Model 2 and 3 games were available at the same level of quality... It's been a puzzle to me, for instance, why the Star Wars Trilogy game was never re-released for home consoles -- especially with the level of technology we have now making a perfect port inevitable -- but there are plenty of other games that have slipped through the cracks, too. SW Trilogy is only one of the higher-profile titles that just "isn't there" yet.

besides the reason mentioned in the article and the two or three cool anime cut scene. The main reason I bought and pre-ordered Tales of Symphonia was because it was four player and I wasn't just hogging the GameCube from my little brothers and sisters we could actually play together. I'm pretty sure it's the only "Tales" game that's 4 player as well I would have bought more of them as they came out

Tales of the Abyss (provided you have a multitap), Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Graces and Tales of Xillia all support up to 4 players. I no longer have the Tales of Symphonia 2 case to check, but I think it's safe to assume that one supports 4 players as well.

MOST of the tales games are 4 player. not just the more recent ones. If my half asleep brain remembers right, it was ToP on psx or ToD that needed a special flag to activate that. ToL wasn't. That's one of the few that aren't.

It's legal, yes, but the norm? I am pretty sure that's, uh, not the case at all. Throughout the entire world, marriages between cousins only make up about 10% of all marriages, and the number is declining, in addition to a number of countries banning it or considering banning it.
Personally, I really couldn't care less who other people marry or have relations with, as long as it's consensual, but claiming it's the norm is an outright lie. I'm fairly certain that the only places with higher rates of cousin marriages are less educated/developing nations.

Wait, you managed to play Symphonia on multiplayer? I had to quit the game a couple hours in, because it would center the camera on me, and my roommate/spellcaster couldn't see what she was doing. We figured it wasn't worth the trouble, since the game's story was only mediocre to begin with.

Tried playing Tales of Xilia 2 multiplayer... got really choppy for whatever reason (as in choppier than it already was on your own).
Tales of Graces F multiplayer was da bes, even though we kept getting bodied on Chaos difficulty (should've learned the exploits >_> ).
