Dammit Answerman, I'm disappointed!
You're missing the crucial step of ?????! The actual step list should be: 1) Teenager writes "script" 2) Teenager mails it to ADV 3) ????? 4) Profit! The key to all of life is finding that missing third step. If someone can figure that out, they can live like a god. |

I almost went there but I'm pretty sure the "????" doesn't exist inside the heads of the people who send me these questions. |

Personally, this never gets old to me.
Am I the only one who found it incredibly amusing that he spelled "license" a different way each time? 4Kids isn't that bad, amirite guys? |

Ha,I totally agree with Paradise Kiss being a perfect fit to Bravo,..heh..honestly..? I watched Project runway ha . So when the new season comes around,if...ParaKiss is liscensed by then, then yeah. i think that would possibly open anime to the masses,...or..a older audience, who arn't just people who watch adult swim, psh, I guess I mean,a entire different audience. ..well if Cosplayers don't watch bravo that is. >.<

I wrote letter #1 because I'm weird and paranoid. I'm somewhere between 60-80% sure that H&C will be licensed, but it depends on my mood. FUNi announcing Rumbling Hearts at Katsu (Don't start about the name, okay?) was hope for me considering how left field it was. (I remember someone guessing it was going to be HachiKuro and thinking it was a good out-of-the-box guess)

I also love Honey & Clover and hope it gets licensed here. I think it will. Considering it's a fairly popular fansub title, and if stuff like Here is Greenwood gets licensed, I'd say there's a good chance.
A good counter-rant. The girl-into-porn was a very good analogy, if I say so myself. |

"Me and one of my friends are writing a anime script and we were wondering how do we send it to get produced. we know a few sponsors like anime works, adv films, bandai,ect... but what we was wondering is do we just send it to them or is there some procedure."
You know with that terrific grammar I can imagine how extra great their script must really be. |

I just wanted to say that this has been one of the best Hey, Answerman columns I've ever read. I felt that they had been getting in a lull lately, with every column having at least one mail from a "hardcore fan" being shot down in your answer. The last article in this column was good to see, and it felt better to read the many good Q&As in this. Thanks for the good read, Zac!
Funny because it's true:
It's kind of a shame that the kitten photos and "caption this" features have been gone. They were, to me, a fun staple of the Hey, Answerman! column. That said, the meat of the column is the Q&A, and with all of the Q&A, flake, and rant being as good as this, the missing garnish doesn't matter. Good job! |

They're not gone, they're just on the bench for this quarter. |

*prays that this thread doesn't turn into another shootout between the pirates and the Royal Navy* --after all, we've had 2 of those threads in the Anime forum this month...
Who knows what'll happen in today's licensing climate...companies are more hesitant to take risks on drama/romance/slice-of-life series, even though some things like Diamond Daydreams and Rumbling Hearts manage to sneak through. Sadly, I haven't watched H&C yet, but it seems more like the kind of romance/comedy series that can appeal to both genders--it certainly doesn't seem like a shoujo anime. I'm also wondering if Viz will do the Aishiteru ze Baby anime, since they've got the manga, but I kind of doubt it. |

"Ah, the good ole days" Yes, let's go back, shall we? Minus the crummy VHS tapes though!
Wow! This was a great installment of Answerman. It felt like I read three rants instead of the usual one. Lots of food for discussion. Regarding the person who wrote the question/essay/rant about recording Naruto episodes: He is forgetting one basic point. When recording Naruto from Cartoon Network, he's not getting it for free. CN is a cable channel. So, when he or his parents pay the cable bill, that episode he is recording is paid for(unless he is pirating the cable signal, of course). |

I really enjoyed this weeks edition, as it seems everyone else did too. Thanks Haze for bringing up the kittens, I though I was the only one who noticed. I liked the question about the Naruto fansubs. The fansubing argument has been brought up a lot and I personally haven't been fully comfortable with what is ok and what isn't. I really like Naruto and, though I have been told I am an exceptionally patient person, have no intention of waiting 3 or more years to find out what happens next. The comparison to bootlegs kinda painted the picture for me so now I don't quite feel like a leech on the entertainment industry.
Keep shooting down those missguided teennagers hopes of making it in the Japanese entertainment industry. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I read it. On that one person's topic of Fansubs, where he talked about VCR's. I have a cool tidbit about the ladder.
Originally when Videocassette Recorders first were made, there was a whole thing about Copyright Issues. Well of course this went to court, and It was being assessed weither VCR's would be good or bad. One of the speakers that spoke in support for VCR's was Mr. Rogers or more correctly Fred Rogers ... (suppose Mr. Rogers is still correct).
I just always found this interesting, and I hope everybody learned a little something too ^^. - Elle |

I just want to point out that any fansub group that managed to snare 30k in d/ls would be doing a little dance. Hundreds of thousands is pure hyperbole, even for Naruto. |
