Oh wow, Saito's art is so beautiful, I have no doubt this will be something awesome to behold! I'm pretty curious about how she'll adapt the Lupin stories...

People may not be aware that the original "gentleman thief" Lupin is also the template for Tuxedo Mask's outfit in Sailor Moon, The first time Usagi saw Tuxedo Mask in the original Japanese version of Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon manga, she said he looked like Arsene Lupin.

Yes, they are.
I Know that Utena is Mrs. Saito's most famous work, but that's a bit misleading- manga was a way inferior to anime (that is primarly associated with Utena), and it was vastly different from her regular work. I just hope it will be closer to Anastacia Club than Waltz in a White Dress |

They are. And there are two volumes of original Lupin stories in translation that are also in the public domain. I know they are available for free on iTunes and likely also for Kindle and other devices. |

Wow, I've never seen Lupin so slick and beautiful. Interesting to see a different interpretation of an extremely popular story. I didn't know that the series was based on a series of novels. Well, if we can get several interpretations of 'Blood the Last Vampire' with CLAMP being the latest then why not Lupin. Talk about a very debonaire feel. Not knocking Monkey Punch, as there take is the only one I've know. I look forward to seeing this.

The thing there is that people mistake her involvement with Utena equating to her creating Utena. She worked with Be-Papas, a group, to develop Utena, and while they were working on the anime she was given the go to create a manga series based on the project. That's why her Utena manga is so different than her usual work, and why it's inferior to the anime. Ikuhara probably hadn't even told anyone at the time how it was going to end by the time Saito began the manga. That's why when you pick up an Utena manga she is only credited for the illustration and the manga adaption. Be-Papas is the group who created the story and characters, and the same goes with The World of S&M. Very few manga based off an anime work end up anywhere near as good. |

Thanks for clearing this up. I was never really sure about this myself which is why I never really say who created this series when I talk about it. The anime is better, but I do like the manga also especially the art. spoiler[ I also wouldn't mind seeing Anthy in an Utena inspired outfit more often ]

Boo! No disrespect meant, but I love Saito's style; it's so 70s/80s-shoujo and unlike anything that's made today. Sure, her designs are repetitive, but they're so PRETTY that I have a hard time holding it against her. The way she draws hair and clothes is to die for! <3 |

Actually she was a member of Be-Papas along with Yoji Enokido, Shinya Hasegawa, Kunihiko Ikuhara, and Yuichiro Oguro. |

I never said she wasn't a part of Be-Papas. In the end though Ikuhara is the guy behind all the magic. |
