Quote: | 20-year-old Tomohiro Kodama was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped a girl on Tuesday, put her in a bag, and then put the bag in a taxi's trunk. |
That explains that FNN report I saw while channel surfing. I was going like "Why are the cops looking over a Nissan Crew Taxi?"

Just another typical reductio ad Hitlerum that anime fans are used to. Now move on.

Toei should sue the newspaper.
If a mentally disturbed person also happens to enjoy a cartoon for children doesn't mean everyone who enjoys the cartoon are mentally disturbed.

Clearly not all mentally disturbed persons who like watching anime are all going to then go out and do such a dispicable act as this, I mean hopefully none of us would?

When the criminal doesn't watch anime, read comics, play video games, watch violent movies what can they blame it on?
Oh yes the criminals messed up childhood...
It's never the fault of the criminal.

I Love Magical Girls and I don't give a damn.
(what I mean is, I am in favor of Anime including Ecchi, Harem, Lolicon, Loli-Gore, Hentai & Ero-Guro. I don't care if "normal people" believe that anime is immoral)

What are you even saying? Are you saying you don't care about the well-being of the young girl who fell prey to this guy's kidnapping? I mean she turned up safe and sound, but still.

No, the kidnapper is seriously disturbed. This report says nothing about otaku in general, no matter how you define the term.

The biggest problem with this dormcat, it's that for some time being a 20+ male Pretty Cure fan in Japan is going to be bad for your own reputation. Since the Japanese don't have a high rate of criminality, whenever there is a high profile crime like this one, they tend to overreact and generalize a lot. I just hope it doesn't come as a new bash against Otaku in Japan or casual fans of Pretty Cure. I might add that what we understand as Otaku and what the Japanese understand as Otaku are two really different terms.

Hats off to the best swimming teacher for a fish.
Or the best meowing teacher for a cat.

I'd say I'm more interested in what makes people care about 7 billion others.

So in America, the media blames every crime on video games. And in Japan, the media blames every crime on anime. :/

Sadly, this would never work. The article wasn't written to hurt the show in anyway, just saying this person's interest. It's like is McDonalds sued because a murderer likes eating there.
