the thing I want to know and have wondered this for a long time is: is there anyway to make it so that the only threads that stop being marked as "
 new post" are the ones that you actually read? so if you go into the forum but only read a few and don't have time for the rest that they don't stop bring marked?

The borad dosen't keep track of the treads that your read, but rather tracks when the last time you were on the board. So this means that if you only read afew threads, logout, and come back later the treads marked as unreads will be the threads that have new replys since the last time you were on the board.
