I read on AnimeX that Anime Expo Tokyo is projection 6000 - 10,000 fans for it's first year. In other words, they're expecting it to draw roughly half of what Anime Expo US does.
Does that make any sense? This is Tokyo, fer cryin' out loud, the city with the largest concentration of anime fans anywhere in the world. I would guess you get 50,000 to come to an anime event held in Tokyo, especially considering that they plan to invite over 100 industry guests, including tons of popular voice actors. Man, for their sake, I hope their estimates are right. ------RM |

TAF 2003 reports that they had 64,000 over 4 days... OTOH, AX JP might just control entry. I remember TAF2002 had long lines at entry as if they were restricting the inward flow. Of course, this was first thing in the morning so maybe it was just natural blockage. |

Here's something else about AX Japan that came over the animecons ml.
----------------------- [ACML] Nippon in 2007 and Anime Expo Tokyo meeting last Sunday Last Sunday I inadvertantly attended a committee meeting for the Worldcon bid and for Anime Expo Tokyo- inadvertantly because the person I was visiting with was unknownst to me a committee member, and had to go to a meeting that afternoon! I'm not able to relate much of what happened there (because it was all in Japanese, of course) but I can pass on some tidbits . it looks like the airline that is participating in the Anime Expo package is All Nippon Airlines (which is good for those Star Alliance frequent flyer club members). I saw a pamphlet of the package, but it wasn't passed on to me unfortunately. . a chairperson for AX will be chosen next meeting (or so it seemed to me.) . discussion of Japanese GoH's took place, I didn't recognise any names BUT ONE- but I was sworn to secrecy, and nothing, not even sexual favours could drag that out of me. Suffice it to say, I went OOOOOOOOOOHHHHH...) . apart from Katsucon and Sakura con, and other anime cons yet to come, the Worldcon bid also visited a SF con in Boston, and will organise bid parties at Toronto this year and at next year's Worldcon (when the vote for the 2007 location would take place.) . the location of Worldcon will be at a coastal resort in Yokohama, and from a picture of the hotel the location looks really luxurious. The big problem I can see is that Narita is on the other side and at least one hour away from Tokyo by train- so we're looking perhaps at a 2-3 hour commute to the Worldcon site. I have handouts from the meeting- if anyone is interested I can scan them in (as pictures- I can't text scan the, for obvious reasons.) Widya Santoso [email protected] |

Hey - Widya's an Aussie like me. I must find him and beat the details out of him
Anyway, the Narita Express goes straight from the airport to Yokohama, so it's not *that* inconvenient... When and where is AX Tokyo supposed to be? I might go try it out... |

Yes, natural blockage is common first thing in the morning. Bran cereal helps. Oh, wait, you're talking about something else. ------RK |
