Perhaps I'm making more out of this than really is, but curiosity has got the better of me...
I've noticed that characters in anime often tap the toe of their shoe twice twice before leaving the house (right after they've put their shoes on). Off the top of my head, I recall seeing Kagome do it in Inuyasha and Chihiro in Spirited Away. Is this a superstitious action... like throwing salt over your shoulder, or rubbing a bald guy's head for luck ? Or they are just adjusting their shoes....?

It's a supersticion. Whenever you sneeze, someone is talking about you.

I feel silly now. But thanks for humoring me. I guess too much data crunching will do these thing to a person... noticing little things and trying to make connections.... Ah well.....
BTW: I thought its was when your nose itched someone was talking about you. I suppose an itchy nose would be linked to sneezing, so maybe its the same superstition.

I want to know if they all wear slip on shoes in Japan, it would be a pain to untie your shoes every time you go inside.
I saw in a movie these guys went to this other guys house to beat him up, and they all took there shoes off when they went in. it was funny.

I'm not sure I understand... You think it would be a pain to have to untie and take off your shoes whenever you go indoors?
I do that. It's not [i]that[/t] much of an inconvenience. And I have no Japanese blood in me whatsoever.
The real pain in the butt would be going on formal visits and having to untie one pair of shoes and tie on another.
