To those who have seen (at least a few episodes of) Samurai Champloo: What do you think of it?

It looks like a lot of fun, but I wonder what there is to it beyond slick fight scenes and fun characters.

I think Samurai Champloo is an alright anime, if I was going to base it on story and plot. But if it was everything else, I would call it slick and great.

I really wish they went further with the story and plot.

I liked the episodes that I saw but I dont think that it will get too popular unless for some reason they put it on Cartoon Network

Shinichiro Watanabe hasn't let anyone down yet in the story department. Smile

And Cartoon Network could carry it, if they stick it past 11pm. (That's where the FCC says that any "basic" cable network can air whatever type of show they want, as long as they give you warnings beforehand. I think this is how Stand Alone Complex is getting away with so much of it being unedited, btw.)

I doubt it. I really don't see many similarities besides the fact that they both are Samurai. IMO, Samurai Champloo is my newest favorite. I'm not judging it on story, but by the characters, and the action, and overall coolness. The animation is awesome, and fluid. The action scenes are great too. You can definately find Watanbe's fighting style in there.

Why? Didn't you already have a topic about this? There is some blood, yes. It varies through the episodes. I wouldn't say gory...and it is on TV by the way. Japan has less restrictions on TV programs than in the US and Canada. And out of curiosity, why would you like to know?

Kenshin is not and was not a samurai. And on top of that, each time period is also separated by a good 200+ years. There are no similarities other than a lot of Japanese people using swords.
