| Death Note (TV) | Decent | great idea, exciting setting. but all the characters are incredibly annoying and dumb, plot is full of inconsistencies, all philosophical discussions are dumb and superficial. the worst thing is how the anime pretends to show "what could happen" in the real world; but that real world is sooo badly depicted. just a couple random examples. (1) what's "wrong" about using the death note -- nobody ever says anything wise for or against; all attempts at ethical discussions are about as deep as a drunken argument. (2) why the heck is "L" hellbent on destroying Kira - without ever talking things over, or at least just thinking about it. (3) Kira kills FBI agents even though they posed no threat -- and in fact, only by killing them does he put himself in danger. not to mention, Kira was supposed to only hate criminals. (4) depiction of corporate executives follows the subtlety and realism of the 1920s caricatures from the communist press. |
