Kona to Host 2007 Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships
Top Worldwide Pokémon Challengers from Nearly 30 Countries Face-Off for Championship Title
BELLEVUE, Wash.—July 16, 2007—Pokémon USA, Inc., a worldwide leader in trading card gaming, today announced that the 2007 Pokémon TCG World Championships are soon to begin in Kona, Hawaii. The World Championships provide players the opportunity to succeed at an intellectual sport and are the ultimate test of a player's Pokémon TCG skill, strategy, and creativity.
Hundreds of players from nearly 30 countries will compete at this year's event. Competitors are divided into three divisions: Junior Division (born in 1996 or later), Senior Division (born in 1992, 1993, 1994, or 1995), and Masters Division (born in 1991 or earlier). The top 16 winners in each of the three categories will be awarded various Pokémon prizes and merchandise, including scholarship awards in each division worth more than $100,000 total.
All players, even those not participating in the World Championships competition, will also be able to take part in a variety of other activities held during the event. Popular Pokémon characters will be on hand for photos, league play and side tournaments will allow players to compete in other competitions, Pokémon artists and creators will be on hand for autographs, and much more.
The 2007 Pokémon TCG World Championships are open to the public.
